I've always preferrered QCD over Winamp and BOTH over WMP, but have recently had to go back to WMP9 because of the SRSLAbs Circle Surround II plugin ( http://www.srs-store.com/store-plugins/mall/default.asp , (demo available)). This is a really sweet DSP that creates a very convincing 5.x sound from stereo sources (it also does 4.x). In fact my home theater receiver also has it built-in, and the plug-in is just as effective.
Is there any chance that QCD will support WMP9 plug-ins, is it it not even technically feasible?
Get the AdaptX plugin which allows DirectX DSPs to run in QCD:

Thanks, I forgot about that! It didn't work a few months ago when I tried it. I'll give it another shot!

You can also check this (http://www.quinnware.com/forums/messages/3/7193.html?1067102006)
topic in the old forum for a link to an alternate to Adapt-X.
[EDIT]: The link above is now useless since the old forum is now gone...
Also, you might check your soundcard's software. Most modern cards with surround capabilities come with software/drivers that do the same thing.

Most modern cards with surround capabilities come with software/drivers that do the same thing.True enough: both my sound card (Hercules Game Theatre 7.1) and speakers (ALtec-Lansing 251) have such capabilities. There is just NO comparison with the SRS Cirlce Surround II sound. As a matter of fact, it blows away Dolby ProLogic II (in PowerDVD5), IMHO. It's a little more aggressive in what it passes to the surrounds, yet also sounds more like a true, discrete 5.1, lik DD or DTS. (So much so, that I also use it instead of DPLII for stereo or DPL encoded movies).
Anyway, even though I don't have the technical knowledge to be sure, but I suspect the CSII plug-in for WMP9 many not be a true DX9 plugin, as it doesn't show in ANY DX9 sound apps, or in Adapt-X (which I tried in WA 2.91 or QCD 4.11, making sure I used the right version. Hell, I even tried WA 5 RC 8 using the WA 2 and WA 3 versions of Adapt-x!!).
So, I guess for the time being, I'm stuck with WMP9! :(

Well, sorry to confirm you that this particular plugin is not an DirectX one and therefore, only available in WMP.
I tried it a while back cause I was curious but frankly, there is others good alternative for 5.1 upmixing. Unfortunately, not for QCD for the time being but here is some link to plugins to try with Winamp.
