it's Bob Marleys birthday today, right about now 10,000 people are chilling to hell amplified reggae/dub styles in Aucklands Domain, bring it on! ;)
this coincides with Waitangi day here (why-tangy) which is the anniversary day of when the English scored NZ from 'the maoris' for a couple of blankets and a musket
naturally 'the maoris' are still a bit sore about the whole thing... :ponder:

Since i'm a rasta myself (except i'm skinhead not dread) Bob Marly's birthday is a big thing. Much respect to Mr. Marley and his message of peace. Too bad his children is abusing his heritage by allowing all kinds of crazy adaptions & remixes.
Ps. To Todd, Bigup to Southside Of Bombay & Herb, the 2 phattest reggae acts in New Zealand (as far as i know).

Yeah. hear you. I think that is wroung for 2 reasons.
1. You don't dig up graves and move around people's remains. Messing with dead people only brings bad luck.
2. The king of reggae should stay in the country of reggae.
3. Many people go to Jamaica just to se Marley's grave. Trenchtown is gonna loose alot of tourism.

Named I think because one of the members ate some dodgy chicken and loud bass gives a similar sort of quesy effect...
Go kiwi music -> www.kiwifm.co.nz -> "it's all kiwi, bro."

i heard the Southside of Bombay for the first time on the soundtrack for one of my favorite movie "once were warriors" that tells the story about a family in the Auckland ghetto. The song is called "What's the time Mr. Wolf" and kicks serious amounts of ass. Herb was also on the soundtrack with a song called "homegrown feeling".
Ne Zealand has a very intressting music scene indeed too bad it doesn't reach out more to the rest of the world....
