Several problems with the 'Update skin/plugin' form:

When the form is loaded (at least for a plugin), both the 'Plug-in' field and the 'Name' field are blank. Also the 'Name' text box is disabled. When submitted, the script then complains that the 'Name' field is blank, making the update impossible.

The QCD installer utility creates self-extracting archives compressed with either bzip2 or zip compression, however the site will not accept a bzip2 archive, i.e. either the site or the utility should be changed to avoid confusion.

The check box at the foot of the page mentions 'terms and agreements', but none are present on the page.

Under 'File selection', the word 'field' is misspelled under each of the three text boxes -- they read, "leave this feild blank..." (also, "leave" should probably be capitalized:)).

Oy...;)

I had no problems uploading my skin...

EDIT: I'm a schoolboy.

What plugin are you clicking on that brings up a blank name and plug-in field?

The name field of a plugin cannot be changed.

If the name field is blank something has gone wrong. Please provide me with more information.

thx

Matt:
The plugin I'm updating is MeterzPak (vis plugin).

I'm not sure what other information I can provide. I go to 'Your DevArea' and the plugin shows up in my list. When I press 'Update', I get the form as described above. Under 'Gathered Information' it has:
Uploading: UPDATE PLUGIN Author: plover Plug-in:
The 'Plug-in' field is blank and the word "Plug-in" is in bold face. All other fields on the page are blank, including 'Type' and 'Name'. Only the 'Name' field is disabled. If it makes a difference, the title cell at the top of the form says "SUBMIT NEW SKIN/PLUG-IN", rather than "update".

Any luck tracking this down? It's still impossible to make plug-in updates :(.

I probably should've noted in my previous post that I'm using Mozilla 1.4.

hi plover.

I changed the ownership to my name and checked it out. It seemed to work perfectly for me. The name came up and I had no errors.

not sure what the problem is.... let me know if its still an issue.

I haven't tried updating my plugin but the name field and such is probably filled on my computer. Im using IE so it might be Firebird... (Though thats weird since I guess its all serverside)

Yup, the problem is still there. I even tried connecting from IE to see if that made a difference, but the plug-in name still does not appear. I tried filling in the form and submitting it again but it still complains about the lack of a name. It also complains about the files I try to upload. I tried both a remade installer exe with zip compression, and a plain zip file - both produced error the message:
UPLOAD FILE: invalid file type (must be a zip compressed file).

I also had a strange problem in IE. I logged in just fine, but when I tried Quick Track->Your DevZone, I got an error page saying I was not logged in properly. The error message told me to "Fill in the form below", but no form was visible. I then clicked on DevZone followed by the Your DevZone link, and the page came up fine.

UPLOAD FILE: invalid file type (must be a zip compressed file).

This a bug that happens when using Firebird. Using IE will update successfully. I'm sure Matt can find a work around (as long as Firebird isn't too broken), but I feel his pain when trying to make something work on more than one system.

by the sounds of it your not letting Quinnware.com's cookies through. If you wish to use any of the features of Quinnware cookies must be enabled.

I tried the upload again from IE and this got rid of the "invalid file type" error. But the file name still does not show up in either Mozilla or IE, even after shutting down the firewall and setting the browsers to "Allow all cookies".

Yea & verilie, crosse platform doth sucke mightily.
Thanks unto Matt whoe hath dar'd tread such unhallowed wastes...

Matt:
So I tried logging in from a different computer -- same result, the "Name" field is not filled in. My usual computer runs WinXP/Sp1. The second one I tried is Win98se (with IE as its browser).

I even tried hand editing the html in the form to get rid of the "readonly" attribute. When I filled that in and submitted it, I got the QCD homepage in return, so I either I wasn't careful enough, or something about the process I used was interpreted as tampering by the server.

Another detail of the update page I forgot to mention earlier -- after the header "Plug-in file" indicating the text box that should contain the local file name, it says "4kb". This is obviously a file size, but is incorrect for the size of current plug-in file.

I could set up another account, and you could transfer the ownership of the plug-in. Do you think that's worth a try?
