I always use the new posts and all of a sudden, after reading a post and returning to the unread posts the green icon is still lighted as if there has been another post since I clicked on it. This is happening until I read all post and click Mark forum read. Anybody else having this problem? Is there any way to correct it? Or is it just something else gone wrong with my computer?

I have a similar experience, after reading a thread, I have to get back to the forum in which that thread was posted, otherwise the forum does not mark it as read...
so for instance, I go to Quintessential Forum > Quintessential Website > Website bugs
Open this thread "New posts"
then after reading it I go back to Quintessential Forum > Quintessential Website > Website bugs
and then I go to the next forum...

Yes, it needs to see that you've been there twice. Then marks off the flag!

It doesn't matter how many times I go to a thread and back to unread posts, the icons or flags are still there just as if I had not read that post.

I've Never used NEW POSTS :knocked-o so I never noticed.
Cached cookies I bet!
Logging out clears yours cookies.
Then it's OK~ Um ~ I guess that something an "OVERLORD" could figure out!
I'm a mere "Young Buck"~

are you behind a proxy? that could matter in this case.. that you get cached pages? have you tried a hard refresh of the forum page? (Ctrl+f5)

No, I am not behind a proxy. I tried the hard refresh and it still doesn't take it off when I click BACK. However if I go to the top of the page and click new post (which is annoying) it will take the one I read off. Clicking Back has always took it off until now. Is there a better way to just read the unread posts than the way I have been doing?

instead of clicking back, have you tried clicking the forum name to return to the posts overview? (in this particular thread's case "website bugs")

it is very annoying, since such a link is not at the bottom of the thread...

Clicking back doesn't change the post status for me neither...

Neither on me - at home. But when visiting the forums from schools it does. Though it reloads the whole page there. So I guess it's somehow related to javascript.

Clicking back has always changed the post status for me until the last couple of days. I sure hope we can get this fixed because having to go to the top of the page and click on New Posts to change the status is bad to say the least.

Matt - Could you please take a look at this?

Can it be due to the type of browser? Or specific settings that say: I'm-not-going-to-download-all-the-pictures-again-of-a-website-because-i-already-cached them sort of thing. How about if you disable the cache and then browse the forum?

hmm that could indeed be it.. at least for the "new posts" page...
because if I use that function (never knew it was there, btw)... and I click back after reading one of the forums, I see indeed the "unread" button, but if I reload the page, it is gone for that particular thread...

I use IE mostly, sometimes Maxthon. Same thing happens with both browsers. I tried logging out so the cache would be deleted but that did not help. I think something has changed on the website because I have always used the NEW Posts and and then clicked BACK and only the unread posts would still have the lighted icon by them. The posts I read would no longer have a lighted icon by it. Now all posts, both read and unread, still have the lighted icon by them making it impossible to tell which posts has not been read. The only way I can get it to work correctly is after reading a post is to go all the way to the top of the page and click on New Posts again. It wouldn't be so bad if the New Post button was at the bottom of the page.

It's got nothing to do with logging out. That only clears the cookies. You want the images to be cleared. To do so go to control panel -> internet options and delete all your temporary internet files. You may want to clear the history cache while you're there. Now when webpages load, the browser needs to download every single picture again including the pics representing read and unread posts. So if you disable the cache, (ie do not allow space on your hard drive for temporary internet files -> see settings in internet options), then for every website you open the browser will need to re-download every image and this might work for the 'bug' you mention.

I deleted all cookies, all temp files and history and allowed no space for either one. Still the same problem. It seems to me it has got to be a new bug in the website. Sure wish Matt would see if he could fix it.

clicking back will not refresh the page, but merely load the page from your cache (unless you care to flush it every time you want to click the backbutton)

It has refreshed the page for me every since I have been using it without flushing anything until about two weeks ago, and I have been using it every day for a very long time. Others must be using a different routine for reading all the new post since I haven't heard anyone else complain. If there is a better, easier way to read new posts that does refresh, please someone tell me because I haven't found it.

You could add the link to the "new posts" function to your "links" bar in IE. and click that button everytime you wish to view the new posts ;)
