Hi folks. I've been getting into soundtracks a lot lately. What's your favourites, and why?
My favourites at the mo' are:-
1. Amelie. Stunning sound quality and a real sense of "being there".
2. Lost In Translation. Again, good sense of "being there" and a pretty eclectic mix too.
3. Run Lola Run. If you like fast, high octane rythyms, this is for you.
4. Trainspotting. It's obvious, really.
5. Powaqatsi. Cos' I dig Phillip Glass. So there.
My preference is really for music composed or, at least arranged, for the movie. A lot of soundtracks run like a greatest hits album of that particular era. Nothing wrong with that, I just prefer something a bit more eclectic.
Let's hear it.

"24", the TV show, has some great music. Both exciting and solemn. Sean Callery is a great composer. He also does the music for "La Femme Nikita".

Matt Uelmen, Todd. Ha ha ha. Yeah, he's my favourite too. He wrote the soundtrack for the award-winning games Diablo, Diablo2 and Expansion. The screams of tortured souls in the tune 'Hell' always amaze me over and over again. :skull:

At first, I thought you meant KOYAANISQATSI, and were just remembering it wrong. Then I did a "Google" search. I didn't realize that it was part of a trilogy. I love KOYAANISQATSI and will have to check out the other two.
Oddly enough, the soundtrack from "Twister" is surprisingly good. Songs from Tori Amos and others, and a great song by Alex and Eddie Van Halen. Its definitely worth checking out, even if the movie was so-so.

Hehe, I didn't know it was part of a trilogy either. I've got the first two. They're excellent. I'll check out Twister too, (in fact it's downoading as we speak), and let you know what I think. I've always been a big fan of Tori Amos, so I'm expecting much. Cheers.
Soundtrack for "Death's Design" by Diabolical Masquerade (Blakkheim + Dan Swanö + The Maalten Quartet).
That's a fake, but I want to see such movie. Movie what deserves this great soundtrack.

Is that really a fake? I'd heard the movie just never ended up being completed and released.
I'd have to go for the Dune (original movie) soundtrack (Toto I believe) and Conan soundtrack (which, if you like, you'd do well to check out the album The Stargate by Mortiis).

We can definitely agree on the above. In terms of compilation soundtracks:
Nikita - Music From the Television Series
The Animatrix
To Live And Die In L.A.
and my favorite...
Babylon 5 (the first two soundtracks released for that series were the best IMO).
a name that doesnt get as much recognition as he should for his soundtrack work is Stewart Copeland (The Police-drummer). toooo much to list.
I believe he did the original soundtrack for the Babylon 5 pilot before Christopher franke came on board. It was awesome.

I think any soundtrack to a tarentino film is excellent.
the music he chooses just works with the film. little green bag (wtf happens in the middle of that song! it all goes to pot!), misirlou (theres a video on the internet of someone playing that song with a guitar and a blender... :cyclops:) need i say more.

Do you remember, many years ago, a TV series, I think "The Equalizer".
Was from Copeland too: very good

Encyclopaedia Metallum (www.metal-archives.com (http://www.metal-archives.com)) says
"Death's Design is supposed to be a soundtrack for a horror movie, though that's just a gimmick story created by Blackkheim, which fooled most of you out there" and I believe it. Sad but true - there's no traces of that movie.

I prefer Henry Mancini's soundtracks. Especially "Breakfest At Tiffany's", "The Pink Panter" & "The Party"
But Jerry Goldsmith's soundtrack to Salma Hatek's movie about Mexican artist "Frida" is almost unhuman.

I have to add some other great composers and soundtracks
First thing : rory - great taste with Lost In Translation, one of my favourite scores, and definetly my favourite movie. Listening to it right now. (actually this is how I found this thread)
Then another great composer : Thomas Newman (http://users.pandora.be/obelisk/tnc/), responsible for the excellent soundtracks of American Beauty (another favourite of mine), The Green Mile, Erin Brokovich, Meet Joe Black, Finding Nemo and, of course, Road To Perdition.
Some soundtracks I like : many of the ones mentioned above (especially John Williams who is the master of scores)
Tina Turner - Golden Eye (James Bond) A Beautiful Mind Braveheart Soundtrack Jerry Goldsmith - The Sum Of All Fears Gladiator Titanic Troy Vanilla Sky Oceans Twelve Chocolat What Women Want
Man, that was a long list...
Have fun.

I love this soundtrack. As I love the film.
