Man, my list just keeps getting longer. Now you know how we feel here in Scotland. We've had this from the English establishment for over 200 years. Doesn't get me down though.

that has to have been one of the most stupid videos i've ever seen. what on earth was that woman on?! and that bloke (i think it was him) "they'd have been invaded by norway if it wasn't for us!" ... all i could say was "right " :nervous: norway get more problems off america - all those clouds of polution coming across the atlantic because the americans refuse to have filters on their energy plants.
oh and one of the best lines "yeah we exploit there [canadas] raw materials" good o'l america.

I can't believe these people are really that stupid...
"It's lucky for them that we allow Canada to be on the same continent"? It's not as if they have a choice? :)
And why do they even have this discussion? Is Canada suddenly holding the weapons of Al-Qaeda or something? Or do some Americans really need scape-goats that much?

Those are a bunch of #%$^# morons who just don't understand Canada or the rest of the world for that matter.
These are people that think the US is the center of the universe and that everything else is insignificant unless it relates to our oil supply or our elections.
What we see is decades of US-centric education in this country coming home to roost. There really is no effort in our schools to see the US as part of the world community. Just witness our basically universal inability to speak a second language or to even point to Canada on a map. This fundamental lack of understanding of the rest of the world will be our eventual undoing. If the Roman and the British Empires can fall, so will the American Empire. Arrogance goeth before the fall.

The worst part is that when we talk about these things on my clans TeamSpeak server, the American members always feel really ashamed of being American simply because of these few minorities. I do feel that unless something fairly drastic happens, we will see another war, albiet not in a "conventional" sense, within most of our (and certainly mine) lifetimes.
America does seem to be off in it's own little dreamworld, and any attempt to foster a world community spirit horribly patronising. I'm sure most Brits don't give two figs about Europe, so how about we move the Isles and Canada together in a nice bit bit of sea, and create our own little area where we can go about our normal business without being seen as "that quaint little country" =p

Sorry to burst your bubble but some of us "Brits" are quite happy to cement further ties with Europe. No offence to Canada. The more powerful Europe becomes, the more tempered will be the US response to other world events.

I'm not *against* Europe, the idea has potential...I just think that we get a bum deal out of it, and Europe doesn't seem to be particuarly fussed about our countries. I fail to see how someone in Brussels can decide what's best for us better than we can. I don't know about you, but most people I know (in the UK) upon hearing the word "Europe" think of "them" or "that place" as opposed to "us" and "here".

they are discussing US/Can relations because Bush recently visited Canada for a 'summit' with our Prime Minister.

This kind of reminds me of the saying "Trust me. I'm from Washington and I'm here to help you." Two lies. The best government is local, but there are some things (int'l relations, defense, trade policy) better handled at a higher level.

From a Scottish perspective the EU is not nearly as scary as Westminster. As an independent Nation within Europe we'd have much more say in things than we do right now. The EU at least has a constitution, more than can be said for the UK, where we are mere 'subjects'. Maybe you're comfortable with that, but I sure as hell ain't. Bring on Brussels. Vive la difference!
