It would be great for music downloaders to have the opportunity to pay a few pennies to the artist each time they listen to a song.

I think that question belongs to a poll or something...

Whoa, each time we listen to a song, that's just as bad as paying $.99 a song and only being able to burn it up to ten times.I don't know what kind of drugs your on ,but you better find something else.

You should have posted this in general discussion not feature requests!

its not the artist that profits from that .99 cents per song anyway. artists make the money from touring and yet there are vampires that manage to suck the profit outta that as if they arent careful. i'll be damned if I pay anyone that makes it possible for so-called "artists" to even have access to a recording studio. ask Madonna where she got her moeny from, she sure as hell wont say from record sales. whoever figures out how to invest the money they DO make are usually the ones that get rich. so....in my opinion, all these digital rights groups can kiss my ass.

If we are talking about digital rights, then we are speaking of a big fuss. Paying .99 cents for a song is just a joke. Go ahead and do the math of how much your current MP3 collection is worth.

I'm not paying a cent for a song. If I'm gonna pay anything, then I go ahead and buy the CD, that's it. Actually the only content I use the "right" way are DVD's. That until they figure some way to do it the not so right way.

And yeah, this belongs to general discussion.

Ah, see, I read this post a little differently...

I thought Ness was saying it would be nice to have a feature where you could contribute money to the artist directly if you chose to. I envisioned something along the lines of how you can Edit Info about a song, there would be another button, Contribute. (O.K. how the money would actually get to the artist is an entirely different problem. Oh those major details! Perhaps something like an ID tag extension where you can specify a PayPal account or something.)

Although I agree no one should be encouraging the RIAA, but I could conceive where something like this would support "local" artists or even encourage "big name" artists to release songs directly to MP3 (Ogg/what-have-you-format) for public consumption. (Hmm... I made $1.60 in royalties with my major record label, and $15 from user contributions, I think I will release songs directly to the public.)

QCD could then be promoted as supporting the music and the artists that make it, not the industry.

Then i wouldn't have a problem paying for some tracks if i knew the money was going straight to the "local" and "big" named bands, but I don't really see that happening with the music industries bottomless pockets.

Very true.

To work it would require the involvement of the artist him/herself. Basically set up some sort of online payment account in the artist's name and people can contribute directly to that. Even then, I suppose there is no way to guarantee the artist is actually getting the money.

This is how I also saw it and it actually seems like a good idea. QCD would get some publicity from it. :)
