I'm personally quite amazed that such small speakers can actually sound like bigger speakers, if what the reviewers say it can do, sounds amazing.

What floorstanders are those, Todd?

they are WHARFEDALE VALDUS 500s @ 200 watts each
i have two of them and they squeal like a mad thing.
i'm currently torturing them with a 375 watt yamaha power amp like this pic

Depends on what you want, a bass modulator or do you want the speakers themselves produce the bass? If you dont have a big room and cant really put big speakers anywhere i'd go for the 2.1 or the 5.1 solution. Bass produced from two speakers cancels out at certain locations and is re-inforced at other places. This is due to the interference pattern (see
here (http://www.quinnware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=690&page=4&highlight=interference) ). This is something you might not want and then a bass modulator would be better. On the other hand, the small satellites you get with the bass modulator probably dont cover the whole range of frequencies unless you get good quality hardware. Anyways, the choice is yours :)

I don't really understand what you mean, considering reviewers find the Aego2 very impressive. Even multimedia and other PC speakers with separate midrange and tweeters don't sound as good as the Aego2's full range driver.

From Michael Fremer of Stereophile:

But what poured forth was what I would have to call high-end audio.
It wasn't perfect, but it was *way* superior to any other small sat-sub
system I'd heard---particularly in terms of low coloration, but in every
other sonic department as well. This little setup rivaled much bigger
systems.
The AEGO2 had an absolutely stunning, detailed, and believable
midband, and delivered a soundstage that was surprisingly large, and
freed from the constraints of the tiny boxes.
The system had genuine dynamics and could play impressively loud
with no hint of strain or compression. Images were 3-dimensional and
nuanced in ways I've never heard from puny systems like this.
