It was bound to happen sometime, so, who's a trekkie?
Personally, I'm guilty as charged. I just have my little Voyager obsession on top of that. Notice my Seven of Nine Anime Avatar...

For me, taking all aspects into consideration, The Next Generation has the edge over the other series. Jean-Luc Picard is by far the most rich and subtle manifestation of the part of a starship Captain, and the series has two unbeatably fascinating non-human characters: Data and Worf. By the way, I don't much care for the term `trekkie' - it makes it sound as though all devotees of the programme are mindless followers, which certainly isn't the case.

You should have added an option in Kligon for the real extreme Star Trek fans who are fluant in Klingon!
I currently follow Enterprise each week, go see the movies when they come out but that's it. I'm not the practical joke Trekkie Geek...

Star Trek is fun program to watch, I prefer some other shows but I'm not a "trekkie" or similar...

As long as you're cool with it...
Do a Google Image Search for "Seven of Nine" and you'll find quite a few other pictures of her and her actress, Jeri Ryan (which you probably know from recently joining Boston Public after Voyager was over)...
Lets just say some of the pictures I wouldn't be able to post here...

I *was* a serious Trekkie (Kirk remains my hero - so shoot me) and then a new star arrived in the firmament:
Babylon 5.
I haven't really looked back although I must confess I do like Enterprise (I hated DS9 and wasn't very fond of Voyager either).

I've seen all the star trek movies. All were very interesting but the most recent ones like Star Trek Nemesis i found a bit on the dull side. I like it when new astrophysical theories are put forward and dont mind some imagination. As for the series i like Star Trek Voyager the most followed closely by Deep Space Nine. Star Trek: the next generation is last.

Woo Hoo! The 4th season of star trek enterprise is finally here on the telly. I'm all geared up for it. The Earth is so much in trouble. :grimreape There are for crying out loud Nazis in America! The whole idea of temporal (=time) wars is totally freaking me out. Monday was the 1st episode, i cant wait till the next. :p

too bad it will be the last season... but it is IMO one of the best seasons, at least it has some great episodes. ;) (I watch the latest eps on BitTorrent and of course on tv)

Well it might not be the last season. There's stories on slashdot about fans willing to pay for the production costs. I wonder how far they'll get. I think it will be in vain though. A real pity that there just arent enough viewers anymore. I hope this is not the end of StarTrek as we know it.

I like the old ones, with William Shatner. The newer ones are STUPID. IMHO.

I was there was an answer along the lines of 'used to be.' Once upon a time I watched every show and movie, read every book, etc. etc.
But then it seems the quality slipped or perhaps I changed. Now I'll watch if there's nothing else on; I no longer make a special effort to seek it out.

Enterprise's next year is cancelled, they will finish producing/airing this years shows so perhaps they'll be able to finish off any loose threads.

The final episode films next month. Personally I really liked it - it was the only one that (despite its foibles and the weirdness with T'Pol) I really enjoyed since the original. I'll miss Trip and Shran. DS9 was a waste of time except for Gul Dukat and Garak and Voyager was another time waster except for the Doctor. NextGen never could develope the character interaction that the original had - Riker stomping around pompously just didn't do it for me.
So, it's Battlestar Galactica (the new series) and my Babylon 5 DVDs for me now. I can stand to wait for whatever those scam artists at Paramount come up with next. I mean, when a studio says the next 50 years of Trek are a financial priority, you KNOW it's not gonna be good...

Yeah that was what i commented upon, but that there are fans out there that actually want to pay for the production costs.
The fourth season just starts here. It took a long time before Veronica (a commercial tv channel here) bought the license (or what is it?) to broadcast it. There've been many Stargate SG1 episodes instead, which i really love to watch as well and of which more episodes are in production too. Battlestar galactica i've never seen on the dutch telly insofar. Maybe later it will appear over here.

HAHA they should have a Star Trek Survivor reality show to see if Trekkies can handle life without Star Trek on t.v.

You can keep your trek...
Although the sub-plot of Cpt. Kirk's trying to bed all the alien women was perhaps ahead of its time.
The Honor Harrington series of books (specifically the early stuff) are my favourites.

It's a series of books by David Weber quite loosely based on Horatio Hornblower naval novels but in a space setting.
The first one is 'On Basilisk Station'. You can download it for free from the Baen Free science fiction library
http://www.baen.com/library/dweber.htm
The second one 'The Honor of the Queen' is also available :)
I really enjoyed reading them - very entertaining.
There are lots of other sci fi books on that site too...

Um, you are aware that the original Star Trek was based on the same Horatio Hornblower series, right?

Yeah its a formula like action movies. Same action and drama formula just a different setting.
Differences with Star Trek:
- Horatio had a most unfortunate surname
- Capt. Kirk got busy with alien women every second episode.
:)
The Honor Harrington series are even more obvious with the initials of the lead character. Anyhow if you like Star Trek you'll probably like Honor Harrington...

Has anyone checked out this (http://trekunited.com/) site yet? It's about saving the Star Trek: Enterprise series. I wonder how effective this campaign will be. It's not like im going to donate money for this. The Star Trek series will just have to be better to attract more audience. I kinda feel that the series been ruined because of the time travelling and temporal cold war thing. It's not very much a novel concept and there are too many paradoxes involved. Having said that, season 4 just started here so i dont know what's going to come next. A new series a la next generation and voyager would be more interesting with less fighting and more science. Lets hope for the best outcome

Lol  The next season for Startrek:Enterprise may actually be saved! Here (http://trekunited.com/news.php?id=7) you can read all about it. It seems that that there has been over $50,000 collected at Trek rallies. And from slashdot "Surprises include a group of donors pledging a resounding $3mil and the appearances of cast and crew members." Maybe the directors will think twice now before cancelling "Star Trek", ha! More rallies are to follow.
