i asked this before, but has this been addressed? i want to control my sound when playing CD's, but it doesn't change it. only with streams and such.

The EQ only works for MP3s (Default MP3 Plug-In).

If you want an EQ that works regardless of the source, get an alternate EQ that works as a DSP plug-in.

can you reccomend something?

Shibatch's EQ plugin (http://shibatch.sourceforge.net) is probably the nicest (in terms of sound quality) of any you can put on an MP3 player. It's a WinAMP 2.x DSP plugin, which will work just dandy with QCD.

Hello,

Bravo for QCD ! It' definitively my mp3 and CD player for my PC. But…

There is something I don't understand. I can't equalize my CDA to but I see I m not the only one.

I can do it with mp3 but not with CDA. I have verified the setting of windows for my CD-Rom device and it is on for numeric playing of CD Audio.

I 've make a test with Winamp and Ms WMP and it's OK : I can equalize.

If it is not possible to native equalize CDA on QCD, it is a serious problem and the users will go back to Winamp. Equalized is the most important feature for a real audiophil !

I beg to differ. EQs on media players reconstruct the audio on the fly and in the process remove high frequencies and add artifacts. An EQ can sound good since it can amplify frequencies that are attractive to your ear, but on the whole, EQs don't improve quality.

Ok, that said. The current EQ does not apply to CDs. To modify CD audio you will need a DSP plugin. (Currently there are no DSP plugins that interface with QCD's EQ, but it is possible to do - hint hint developers)

wow! that's sweet. fully configureable and all, but how do you get it to work  i'm guessing you have to create a "setting" then import it into QCD? am i right. looks sweet though :D

It's a DSP plugin. Extract it to your QCD plugins folder, then use Load New Plugins in QCD's prefs screen (under plugins, obviously). Then go into the DSP plugins section, make sure "Equalizer" is checked, then click Configure. I suspect you're not familiar with parametric equalizers (on the right side of the screen), so just stick with the graphic eq on the left. Note that this is more of an audiophile's eq - there's no boost, only cut. That's because in terms of preserving sound quality and integrity, it's much better to cut, as boosting generally introduces more distortion. If you would normally boost a certain frequency, you should instead just cut everything but that frequency. Also note that this plugin doesn't apply your changes as you make them. To hear your changes, hit the preview button, and... wait a few seconds. There's a delay due to the playback plugin's buffering time. If it's really that big of an issue for you, you can set your playback plugin's buffer length to zero, just make sure you set it back to normal when you're done adjusting the eq. When you're happy, save your settings, and you'll probably want to set it to autoload the setting you just created. Enjoy!

And if you want to be able to boost, do the following in the equalizer:

1. Click on the New button located near the right side.
1. Type 0 in the field Lower.
2. Type 22050 into the field Upper.
3. Type in the amount of dBs you want too boost into the Gain field. In this example, type 10.
4. If you typed 10, press the Down button at the bottom of the equalizer windows 10 times.
5. Press the Preview button.

The audio now gets cutted by 10dB in the graphic part and then amplified by 10dB in the parametric, so you
you have the original volume in the end. If you now increasing a slider and thus lower the cutting in a frequency area, the result will be a boost in that area. So if you for example raise the sliders marked 55 and 77, you will boost the low and mid bass.

i'm very familar with EQ's, that's why i wanted this. i'll play with it later, but thanks for the tips! that's not just a bass sitting in my avatar, that's my bass! :D

i got a chance to play with the EQ, but still don't work with CD player. :( woks good with everything else though.

Oops, we forgot to mention that you need to have QCD's CD input plugin playback method set to Digital Audio Extraction if you want to use DSPs with it!

is this with the shibatch plug-in only?

Correct, it even says "allows player to use DSP" when you select DAE from the CDDA plugin config. ;)
