I bought a Creative Labs SB Audigy LS on Thursday at Microcenter for $50. It is the best thing I have done for myself for quite a while!
There is an Audigy 2 now - I don't know how much it costs - but the LS sounds noticeably better than my old Sound Blaster PCI Ensoniq. Even the echo effect I use sounds better, and I think my second set of speakers is getting more action. I have the output from the sound card going into an auxiliary in on an Aiwa CX-NA303 mini stereo with detachable speakers. It has mini mono jacks for surround-sound speakers, which I use on my desk.
I can't wait 'til I buy a cable and split the sound card out to go to my "other", "big" stereo.
I'm using the Adapt-X 3.5 DirectX Plugin adapter with a free echo plugin, and a regular QCD-compatible SQRSoft expander and com/lim plugins.
