What browser do you use?
Personally, I use the Open Source Gecko-based browser Mozilla Firebird...

I use Mozilla. I won't use Firebird until I can keep my tab bar open at all times. Is that possible yet?

It may be with TBE - Tabbed Browsing Extension...

It's freeware and never crashes on my system,

Oh, and BTW, I don't think that I clarified this. If you are using an IE shell, eg, Avant, SlimBrowser, MyIE, Neoplanet, Netcaptor, etc., please vote for the IE option. I'm more concerned about the rendering engine, the heart of the browser, than the shell. Sorry for any confusion...

I like IE... I have used Opera before but ChannelAdvisor (an auction management software) uses lots of Javascripts for their navigation, Opera can't handle it.
I will check on Firebird, seems good stuff. Is it free?

K-Meleon 0.8 (Gecko-based) does everything I want a browser to do, at high speed, looks good with themes, is customisable using macros, and has a good forum where you can get a quick response to any query.

Firebird is the Gecko engine.
As is Mozilla, Firebird, Thunderbird, K-Meleon, Beonex, Netscape 6.0+, Camino, and all the other browsers found on This Page (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/distros.html)...

Yea! Another Gecko Vote! How is K-Meleon 0.8, BTW? I haven't tried it out yet. Generally, my main browser is Firebird (w/ Thunderbird) supplemented by Mozilla and Beonex, but I also keep the latest version of K-Meleon on my computer to play around with. I haven't gotten around to installing it yet, though...

Yes, I know NS4 is bad, but everyone knows that IE and Microsoft are EVIL because they don't support standards...
There's going to be a release of IE 6.05 soon, BTW, but ony for Windows XP as part of Service Pack Two...
Why do you go between IE and Firebird. Make the Bird your Default, you know you want to... ;)

I find K-Meleon excellent in all the ways I've described. I've tried Firebird, but it has certain drawbacks from my point of view: it messes up my IE favourites, you can't hide the tabs, and you can't create groups for opening several web pages at one go.

It's all a matter of taste, some people like Firebird's Uber Features, some people like K-Meleon's Smallness, as long as we're all using the same rendering engine everything's fine... ;)

It's funny how everyone says crap about "Mozilla is perfect. blah blah. The rendering engine is god." Funny that most web site bugs are in Mozilla and Opera. Why? Because the cool web designers know that IE is better and that is what they use. :D

Geez man, you've read my mind... that is exactly what I was planning to say. What about Javascript and those other things, how does your beloved Firebird stands with Javascript?
Also have you noticed that many sites I use have Flash for navigation instead of HTML so the browser rendering perfection isn't a essential requirement for me, either.

TabBrowser Extensions allows you to hide the tab bar and to put the tab bar on the top or the bottom.
You create groups using bookmarks. If you want to open the group, you right-click on the group and select open Open in tabs. With TabBrowser Extensions, you can define groups and when they come up, they show up in color-code tabs.
I use Context Menu Extensions which allows you to write your own browser extensions in Javascript and have a custom script for startup. The script just has _nettab commands with URLs as the argument and just opens them all up at once.

To envy is to resent something for it's greatness. I hope that is what you meant because M2 is awesome. A lot of people don't understand the way it works because it doesn't deal with "folders". It's simply one large database of every email that one receives. But you can create "views" to filter certain emails into several categories. It has other nice features of course too.

That's cool, may I ask what your project is about? I need somebody to help me with a custom cam portal/rating script for my site. I'm currently working on a project myself that I call "Projekt X." It's to team up with others and by hopefully combining all skills, the final product will be awesome. It doesn't have to deal with SpazCam (my site) either. I'm willing to create a partnership with people. Hopefully it would possible to create a highly interactive website that not only interests people, but can also be a new trend that will expand over time.

IE is the only browser I have ever used and I admit my computer was loaded with pop-ups/adware/spyware until I found out how to stop all that stuff from happening. I put Spybot Search and destroy and Spyblaster on to find and keep it off and added No Adds and Pop-up Stopper to get rid of all the pop-ups I was having. They work. Now I have no pop-ups and I run Spybot every morning and find no adware/spyware on my system. The only pop-ups they did not stop was the ones from messenger service and the help file in Spybot search and destroy tells you how to stop all of those. So you can use IE if that is your choice and not be bothered with pop-ups and adware/spyware which seem to be the reason most people do not want to use IE

hm.. the Gecko browsers are winning in the poll.. weird.. the same poll on winamp forums would probably be 99% IE :p
JEdwardP

...same poll on winamp forums would probably be 99% IE :p
If there were such a poll, I'm sure the IE-user percentage would be higher than it seems to be among us, but I wouldn't think it'd be THAT high.
Yes, other browser use will be higher among those of us who generally like to investigate and choose lesser-known, higher-quality software, but remember, Winamp users ARE folks who've made a choice. If they weren't, they'd be using WMP instead of Winamp, since WMP, like IE, is part of the Windows' bundle.
So, I bet a significant percentage of Winamp users will have made other software choices too. They might, for example, be more apt to browse with one of the many IE front-ends, like MyIE2 or Avant. Of course, you could word your poll choices to include those in the IE group though.
Opera for me. Since gecko browsers are winning, I also tried them (Mozilla & Firebird), but they didn't have anything new to offer. Well, I guess Firebird is a good choice if you want light browser. But in case of Mozilla, I find Opera better in every aspect.

Probably like most folks I started with IE. Finally, after reading many good reports about Firebird I took the plunge. Excellent.
Tabs are a superb feature and I frankly don't know how I managed without this feature.
When I used to use IE I would run Spybot & AdAware after every session and would always find some crap had invaded my space.
Since switching to Firebird I could just about uninstall these two programs. They never find anything.
So, in summation, not only is Firebird more usable (tabs) but it's also far more secure. Oh, and Firebird is such a cool name, don't you think.

Hi Todd, how,s it hangin'? I've just done it about half an hour ago. No probs.
First, you should disable all extensions you currently have enabled.
Go to the Firefox download page and click for windows (if that's what you're using?).
I just went for the default install option, but if you want to do a custom install you'll have to read the release notes - there's a link to these on the download page.
Next, just click on install and it,s all taken care of.
One caveat - The plug-ins page, on this site of all sites, is Fugazi.
Other than that, everything seems fine.
Good to hear from you man. :bandit:

Firefox is a load of cow's dung. I have changed back to good ol' mozilla ;) No fuss with dissapearing scrollbars, not being able to download, and other hassles :)
It's still only a Technology Preview, all these problems will be fixed by 1.0, hopefully...
And just so you know, when Mozilla versions are released, the download server generally goes down for these also...

I just like to mention that firefox runs very well in linux mandrake and loads a lot (and i mean a lot) faster than mozilla. Yup, firefox is definitely my default browser in linux :)

Hey I used to use MyIE2. It had so many cool features... yet I came back to IE.
There was always a problem for me in flash sites, linked buttons to a new page just wouldn't pop up, and I got tired of it.

I second this... :D
So you guys don't need a download manager, a cookie manager and a password manager? And you really don't need tabs?
But you need selfinstalling spyware and a lot of popups?
I'm sure you would need tabs if you got used to them. It's like driving a Yugo when somebody is offering a free Mercedes: "Hey.. It does everything I need. It moves."

I use IE and I have zero spyware and zero pop-ups on my winxp system. All you have to do is install what some of the other brousers already have installed on their brouser. I use Spybot search and destroy every day and find nothing. I took Spybot's recomendation and added Spyblaster to keep it off and it does exactly that! I use Pop-up Pro and Noads which stop all my pop-ups. So I can't really see the need of using anything else. I tried Firefox and myie2 but went back to IE because for me, it just seems so much easier to use.

I use both firefox and IE,IE a little more than the other for the fact that I am use to it,spyblaster is a good app,but for popups I recommened stopzilla IMO it is the best popup blocker ever made and you only need the one app instead of two.:D

I use tabs with MyIE2. I don't want a download manager, or a password manager or a cookie manager. I don't get pop-ups (with MyIE2 or pop-up popper for IE) and it's not spyware.

I'm a FireFox guy. Though some flash objects don't load sometimes (at all). Other than that it's great.

Firefox. No probs here, and I configured it for maximum screen space!
Help me out here.
I'd need some VERY light browser for my old comp. It's only P75 so it's realy slow. Something with integrated e-mail client would be great.

Isn't integrating an e-mail client starting to go away from the light browser requirement you were talking about? But anyway, a lightweight browser that still supports tabs, try K-Meleon. I would say firefox, but i'm not sure how well that would run on something so slow...
I should've meantioned that it has only 24MB of RAM. K-Meleon required 32 and didn't really work at all. Most of the toolbars just missed.
The browser doesn't even have to be the newest version. As long as page-rendering is somewhat modern.

Have you tried Opera (http://www.opera.com)? I'm not sure how much memory it consumes though.

Have you tried Opera (http://www.opera.com)? I'm not sure how much memory it consumes though. Opera claims that it will work on that system, but if K-Meleon doesn't work, I really don't trust Opera to...
Try Off By One (http://www.offbyone.com/). It will most likely work, but it does have some limitations...
Or if you want an oldie, try Netscape Communicator 4.8 (http://wp.netscape.com/download/archive/client_archive47x.html). It has built in email...

With Firefox it is possible to give you even more screenspace than in IE...
Impossible; you can't exceed 100% screen space, which IE will do with the "F11/AutoHide Toolbar" option. :)

I find it bigger than IE. With FireFox, the toolbar is narrower. F11 works with FireFox too.

But with IE there is NO toolbar. Thats what I mean by 100%. IE uses all the monitor space, thus, you can't have "more" with any other browser. :)

So what's this then? This is IE 6. The only browser I know with absolute "full screen", is Opera. I know because I tested it out today (didn't like it though).

Sorry. I didn't read (as usual). Right-click on toolbar, then Auto-hide. (Didn't know that, thanks). But I'll still use FireFox though.

Theres an extension for firefox that gets rid of the toolbar... check out http://texturizer.net/firebird/extensions/, should be on there somewhere. (its called Autohide, http://www.krickelkrackel.de/autohide.xpi)

Okay, so up until about a month ago I also used IE... but checkit: firefox is just so much better than IE, once you start using it, you won't go back...
On an interesting note, thats what a friend of mine told me about QCD... and, well, I guess you all know how that turned out too ;)
