Hi! How are you? Me fair, but after reading about sixteen pages of the PDF book
on how to create QCD skin, I said wow! I do not understand anything the book is saying, I got all discourage, because I wanted to contribulte to this wonderful project for Quinware, to have an excellent player like that for free, we have to work hard to remain it free. I went to see all the 47 pages of skins available and said this is very nice, all kind of patterns and design and buttons. But after reading only the sixteen pages I said, this is a very hard work and dedication from all of you creating those superd skins. I wanted to contribute to this, but I think I have a lot of crumbs to eat before arriving at your level. I thought that you had somekind of software that all the buttons the main skins was included, but I found out after sixteen pages it is not the case, it is almost programming for me.Before I contribute like all of you, you are all wonderful designers, I will have to get used to a paint or bitmap program. Are there any out ther which is free, because I do not have a lot of money, I am poor really, I have a compute thanks to my parents who bought me one a couple of years ago. I had one computer before this one now, but it got infected by a virus which was beyond repair, the disk drive and motherboard was finished, so have to chage it and the first computer came from a correspondence course for computer specialist. Is ther any good free program out ther that I can get familiar at, before creating some skins or themes? I am not a computer whiz, but I unserstand computer very well I have been surfing for about seven years and downloaded all kind of software. so I am no programmer just like you all, but I understand computers. So this is what I wanted to share to all of you, because I felt the urge to do it, I am sorry this is off topic though.
This is more difficult than I thought to create skins, I admire all of you.
I am a 36 years old or young man by the way, I am trying to do my best to contribute to the web.
Thank you for hearing my cry and your attention and collaboration.
Bye!! <---- this is how I look.

wow yeah hello qcd fan, long post there, take a big breath k lol.
Skinning gets easier once you get through the first one.
Tip: Disect other people's skins to try and learn the basics (convert .qsf to .zip). That is what I did.
Have you tried The Gimp?
http://www.gimp.org
It's a free photoshop-esque program.

Thank you mootang for your help. I am sorry about the long post, I did not do this in purpose, I just wanted to share my thoughts that is all. Yes I have been at the Gimp website, I will download this program, when the times come.
It is amazing this is only you who helped me with all this, with all the registered members in this forum, only you helped, I do not know if it is the case for everybody, but it is not a good average. Maybe because I said I was unemployed or poor, maybe that is why.
Take good care. Stay safe. I downloaded some skins made by you, you are very good indeed. Continue your good work.
:skull: <------ I look just like this right now.

I'm with Todd in this one.
I've never had enything common with skinning, so I can't help You with that either.
I don't think You are poor. ;) In Poland poor family don't even have a PC at home.
You have a PC and You have Internet Connection. So to me, You are more average than poor. :)
Anyway, welcome to the forums. :)
Good luck

I think everybody is confused when they first try to read the skinning documentation. I was probably more confused than you were. I didn't understand anything at all... and I still don't understand a lot of it.
It's not hard to skin QCD... It's actually much easier than most other programs. It's just difficult to understnad the concepts. Once you understand QCD skinning, you'll probably find it very easy.
If you have any questions, please ask.

The thing anybody should start out doing is to start basic with maybe just the standard play ,stop, forward, and back buttons then add little by little.
If you have questions just ask in the forum there are quite a few people who will be nice and give any help if you need it.
And WELCOME to the forum and to the skinning world!!!!!

Tip: Disect other people's skins to try and learn the basics (convert .qsf to .zip).
Also, most of the popular and recent skins are relatively complicated. A good basic skin to look at is "SimplexDK" by Xymantix.
And just for clarification: .qsf and .qsk files are the same format as .zip files. If you just change the extension name, Winzip (or whatever compression program you use) will recognize the file.
Good luck!

I know nothing about skinning, and like you, I have total respect for those who have the knowledge and talent required to do it.
As far as you being poor is concerned... the internet doesn't discern between princes & paupers. To quote the Kiwi... "No worries, mate"!!! ;) Welcome to the forum... kick yer shoes off & stay a while! :cheerful:

flaflan is not as difficult as you think...
I did't read all those 58 pages... I skipped many pages and started from where it explains abou the body and maps... I created the body with the buttons and everything and then used the instructions... I just had to crop and change hue/saturation settings and shadows....
I can't think of any photoshop alternative right now.. But tell me, how many of you BOUGHT photoshop? I didn't...
And don't get so discouraged by this.... Its very easy...
cheers

Thank you for your help. If I would have been a poor woman, maybe you would of care more. But a poor man, we are disposable. Thank you o2x for your support and to the ones who tried to help. I think the ones who got offended of what I said, touch a very sensible manner, which this is good. Because in these forums there is not feelings wahtsoevever, it is very cold and people always want to hurt another ones or laughed at the others. Instead of saying to me thnak you for your excellent comment flafan I got bombarded with do not ccare if you poor thing. This is not human. Even animals do not treat each other like that.
Thanks and take care. :puzzled: <----- I look like that right now.

I apologize if it appeared that people were offended or laughing at you. This was not the intention.
The person who said "I don't care if you are poor" was not saying something mean. He was saying: "We will not reject you because you are poor. You are welcome here." It is very rare for anyone to be mean in this forum.
Several people tried to help you. The other people wrote just to say "Hi" and "Good luck" (with making skins). It is unfortunate that our casual use of English made our words seem unfeeling.
I hope that my writing is understandable to you. If it is not, there are people here who know many different languages who may be able to help.
Again, I apologize.

Hey man, Chill. Nobody is being disrespectful to you. For what it's worth, just like Todd and some others, I haven't got a clue how to skin. As for you're relative wealth - I wouldn't worry about that either. I'm "skint" too. For the record, I've been here about a year now and money has never come up.
QCD is a very egalitarian society. Great bunch of lads & lassies. Sure, we have differences of opinion, but it's all good. It would be pretty boring if everyone thought the same. (In fact I wouldn't be here, that would be boring).
Finally, stay around. It's all to easy to take things the wrong way when you're just reading text. Just ask Todd, or me for that matter.
Unfortunately I have to go to work now, but stay around and post some more. These are good people.
And have some of these -
Not too many though :knocked-o

IMO, it seems to me like you are feeling sorry for yourself. What did you expect to read after you wrote that you were poor (but with a computer and internet service, as zayoos pointed out). Mootang gave you a link to a freeware program(all you said you needed) 6 hours and 6 minutes later. Later, o2xygen hinted at a way to get photoshop

Then you formed the reason why there had been only one other respone. I don't know, but I would bet that nobody else knew of a program.
Eat your crumbs, as you said in your first post, and learn to skin, if you want to. You wrongly assumed that Todd was trying to hurt you. What other post could you have possibly read as being posts that were cold and trying to hurt you?
BTW, I do not know how long you have been reading/using these forums. I have not posted a very much, but I have reading the threads on this forum for a long time. I do know that this statement is completely false. Because in these forums there is not feelings wahtsoevever, it is very cold and people always want to hurt another ones or laughed at the others.
Who here simply wants to hurt others? Anyone? Didn't think so.

that he did.

good luck with the skinning man
if you misinterpret this post i will be rude to you
perhaps you could get someone more familiar with english to help you 'decipher' our posts.
QCD is free. QCD skins are free. We are not making profit with skinning. So we won't hurt Adobe using hacked (free:)) Photoshop.

I don't know what other forums you visit were you get treated or people treat you different because of something ,but that is NOT the way the people around this forum are.We are all here to help each other as much as possible NOT to hurt or laugh at each other.if you need help feel free to private message me ,or keep asking more questions in the forum on parts you get stuck on when creating a skin ,like I said before there are quite a few people in here that will be more than happy to help no matter what it is.

Hiya People !!!
Been reading the posts lately, I recently moved to a new apartment all by myself and still trying to get DSL, since right now I'm posting from a lousy internet cafe with a pretty dirty computer (both software and hardware) :nervous:
Anyways, to our fellow flafan, let me tell you, In this forum you will not find anyone that will hurt either your feelings, your emotions, your personal integrity or dignity. In this forum every single member cooperates with either their ideas, contributes with skins or with debugging others pluggins or the beta QCD versions.
Giving you my own example, I have had the idea to skin QCD even before you noticed QCD and I haven't been able to complete my skin, it's only a PSD file right now (photoshop) still a long way to chop it and make it a functional skin.
So, just a little word of advice for you my friend flafan: relax
Me and this forum welcomes you as a QCD user and we surely will welcome you if you wanna contribute with your ideas, skins or suggestions for this amazing piece of software.
Just for you guys to know... I've converted many Dell customers to QCD !!! :)
