I am new to the forum and to the Quintessential player.
Just got it installed and it works fine except for the .mp4
files playback - doesn't recognize it from the default installation ( and not playing of course ) and after downloading MP4 Plug-in 2.1 beta it plays sound only.

I've got WMP 8 and it plays that file perfectly ( its a home made video - from the tape i beleive ). So does RealPlayer.

From all codecs i have only QuickTime alternative installed
and i assume, since WMP and RP play .mp4 files, i do not need any.

Can someone help me? Assume that i know nothing about codecs and such.

Thank you.

Sorrry the mp4 plug-in can only decode audio data, NOT vedio data.

Thanks.
Is there anyway to view .mp4 video?
Strange thing though - i have managed to ( i cant remeber now how i did it - probably by installing some WMP plugin
i cant reconfigure it now that way ) to view video but couldn't hear sound - how is that possible?

If you have the codec installed, which I assume you do, try adding the mp4 extension into the video plugin's configuration.

Nothing - i have mp4 files associated with QP and it was added already.
The question is - should it work? Or may be the file is encoded in some different way?

I installed all from the scratch ( with no codecs and no audio/video software installed, except for WMP and some
audio player that comes with the sound card ) and it doesn't work. I tried to install directshow and the K-Lite codec pack ( the mpeg and mp4 part only ) and sitll doesn't work.

Help again!

The QCD video plugin just uses DirectShow so if it plays in other video players it should work in QCD as well. The codecs are all that matters.

Seems strange that it wouldn't work for you. What happens? Does the file load or is it blocked? Also, since you have the mp4 input plugin installed, whichever plugin is first in the input plugins list will try to handle that extension, so try moving the video plugin above the mp4 plugin.

Its pretty strange - sometimes ( not much, lol ) it doesn't load and doesn't show the length of the file - all the other times its only audio playback.

Now its getting even stranger - i have just converted that unplayable mp4 file to avi and it plays!!!! This codecs and formats are driving me crazy.

Just to double check, did you make sure it was set in QCD as a video association? Just having windows associate the extension .mp4 with QCD isn't enough, you have to tell QCD to treat it as a video file, rather than an audio file. From QCD's prefrences menu, go to settings and then video, and then make sure MP4 is included in the list of video file types at the bottom.

Yes - in Settings -> Video -> extensions ( ? ) i have added :mp4.
Doesn't matter. Besides - if i put mp4 plugin not the first in the Plugins-> Input plugins then i cant hear sound either ( and i know that the order of plugins matters ).

ZenMaster's problem was solved through private messages.

The solution was to download the 3ivx codec from http://www.3ivx.com
