:coffee: I would like to go to a radio station website and save the streams so i can play it on my mp3 player..I have been searching all over the forums for info on how to do it and very confused...need a straight forward and easy explanation on how to do it...So far i have got the new Tara version that works with the new QCD player.. i see the plug ins in the QCD player and have activated them to be the default player but when i play the radio stations..they open up their own window with real player (installed on my computer) and not in the qcd player. How do i get it over to QCD so that i can save the streams???? I am sure many people would like this question answered!!!! Thank you!

If you were following the FAQ (http://beta.quinnware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=308), I think this is the step that you wanted to do to fix your problem.

Optionally, set up QCD as the default player for Real Media file types.Do this in Preferences > Settings tab > System section > File Associations or if you have a link to the stream, you can drag & drop the link directly into QCD.

for recording, try these (which i found by simply doing a search in the forums for "stream real record"):

A couple of questions. Which browser are you using? If real file types are associated with Realplayer within the preferences of your browser you may need to change those preferences. I see this in Opera but not in IE, which I'm not so familiar with.

You may need to go into Realplayer and change some options there. Under Tools=>Preferences=>Content=>Media Types. Hit "Deselect All" and make sure that the "Periodically check my system..." checkbox is unchecked. realplayer will otherwise reassociate itself with the files you're trying to play.

I would also suggest getting rid of Realplayer altogether. Download Real Alternative at http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/finalbuilds.htm. While you're there you can get rid of Quick Time too. I hate bloat, but I digress.

Thank you both for your replies..To Drewkeller...yes i was reading your thread and got confused...I have done everything you said...I will recap.... also to Jkrzop....I have IE...and i have new QCD and new Tara...uninstalled real player and downloaded the Real Alternative...I set everything to default QCD. The real player still opens up on the radio websites.Any suggestions? I will say though that if i can move the real player link into QCD if it is available and it WILL play in QCD but i cannot record the stream...???? Help!

It sounds like the web page is launching an embedded player. It would help if you would say which web site and stream you are trying to listen to.

Some sites, like the BBC embed the actual stream you want to listen to inside the stream you see on the web site. For example, if you open the BBC's embedded player to listen to a stream and copy the link address of the "Listen using stand-alone RealPlayer" link you get

http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7/realplayer/dsatg2.ram

Opening this link in QCD doesn't work. But if you open this link in a text program (I used Open Office, a great free alternative to MS Office) you get this:

rtsp://rmlivev8.bbc.net.uk/farm/*/ev7/live24/bbc7/live/bbc7_dsat_g2.ra

This is the link you would want to cut and paste into QCD. I can save this as a .wav file but it is unplayable in QCD. See http://www.quinnware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2053

thank you jkrzog for your info...You are right...the player is embedded in the web page...On bbc i can make it work if it uses the stream you were talking about...I tried to copy and paste that info you did with office but i cannot paste it into the player...or i cannot find the way to paste. Is that the only way to do it??? I will give you the links of the radio stations i was trying to put into QCD and cannot make it work. Try these and let me know if you can! and let us know how you did it. http://www.ministryofsound.com/radio/
http://www.novaplanet.com/ (enter then top right,,, radio nova live....Use the real player....winamp and itunes works with QCD... but i am using the real player as an example of not working...

Ministry of Sound link:
http://www.ministryofsound.com/asx/radio/mosradio.asx

This stuff is easier to do with Opera and Open Office. MS Office won't do that trick at all of opening a link to show the embedded link inside, at least not that I can see. I couldn't open the ministry of sound link in Office at all. It actually asked me for a web site password and refused me permission.

I opened up the embedded player, copied the "play" link address and opened that in OO. I had to view the html code and by searching for "asx" I found the link.

Nova was tough, being embedded in a flash player. I had no luck getting the Real or Quicktime stream url. But I gave up early as the mp3 stream plays just fine in QCD. I would just save that in a playlist and be done with it.

With IE you can always try to find a "real" address by right clicking on the link and choosing to "save target as." This creates a shortcut. Right click on this shortcut, choose properties, and copy the url (With Opera there's a right click "copy link address" that saves many steps). Open this in Media Player Classic (which should come as part of Real Alternative). Then right click on the file in the playlist of MPC and choose "copy path to clipboard." This is the "real" address; paste this into QCD and play. Save your playlist so you don't have to jump through hoops again!

Just for kicks I played with the Real Audio stream at the Nova site at a friends computer (They still have realplayer installed). There's an option to open the stream in Realplayer. I did so and much to my surprise found that it was actually an mp3 stream! Same address as the stream that opens in QCD. It looks like all they're doing is giving you a choice as to what player you use, not in the actual type of stream playing.

I don't undertand French but I love the sound of a Frenchman making fun of W. Unless "Bush" means something in French?

You can always open them in note pad to get the link.
