Hello again. I've recently installed QCD and I am very happy with it. However, it would seem my 'puter is not. Everything is fine when I play from my HD but when I try to play a pre-recorded CD WiMP 9.0 autoplays it. I know I can tell my computer to use QCD for CD's, but for the life of me I cannot work it out. Also, I,m using a soundblaster live! audio card along with a 5.1 set of speakers(also from creative) but my computer continually resets to 2-channel output instead of 5.1. I'm using XP. Lastly, a bit of wishful thinking. Is it possible to uninstall WiMP 9.0. Cherry on the cake! Hope someone can help and thanks in advance.RTD

it's not exactly clear how to remove it (leaves a previous version??) but you can try this

if you do get it removed, i suppose that would fix the CD loading problem also.

i don't have a soundblaster soundcard. did you try looking for a solution on creative's website?

I don't get the acronyms right... WiMP is Windows Media Player right?

If so, I don't think it is a good idea to uninstall it at all, XP uses some of the services provided by WiMP. Like the preview thingy in explorer and some others.

Just my opinion...

As for the problems with the surround, on the Control Panel on Sounds and Audio Devices applet in the Volume tab, there is an Speakers Settings and there is an Advanced button. You may want to check there the settings.

Go to your 'My Computer', right click on your CD drive and select properties. Now in the 'Autoplay' tab you can select what you want to happen when a cd is inserted. Try setting to 'Take No Action'.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks for the advice folks, unfortunately noyhing seems to work. I've set my audio properties to 5.1 but as soon as I restart my 'puter it reverts to 2-channel desktop speakers. As I use my computer to watch television programmes, I'm beginning to think the TV card could be responsible. Regarding Audio CD playback, I've tried selecting "take no action", however, upon insertion of a CD, Windows Media Player always takes over. I don't think I can successfully uninstall WiMP so I'll just have to put up with it. Again, thanks for all the help. Sgurr Alba.

I also had soundblaster live and creative speakers (4.1) and every time I set my sound for 4.1 speakers, they would convert back to 2 channel output but the sound was still coming out of all the speakers. I also have WinFast TV on my computer and it had the sound ok when playing it. I changed to m-audio revolution sound card and now everything is fine except I have no sound at all when I turn WinFast TV on either the tv or radio. Anyone have any idea how I could restore the sound when playing the TV or radio on my computer?
