I have converted some midi files to MP3 but they won't play on QCD. These MP3 files play on Winamp, Media Player, and some other players.
Does anybody have a guess of what I'm doing wrong or how I can adjust the settings to play these MP3 conversions?
First off, you sure you didn't end up with the same midi files, only with the extension changed to .mp3? ;)
Second, you do have QCD's midi plugin from the plugins page installed, right?
Otherwise, how exactly are you converting your midis to mp3?

And, good gawd, why would you want to convert midis into mp3s?
I'm not persecuting, I'm just curious.

These are true MP3 files. I use a program called TiMidity for the conversions. I won't explain the technology here, but if you're interested, download the free program and read some of the readme files for an explanation of how the conversions work.
The reason I want to convert midi files is because MP3 files are much more versatile - although they are a whole lot larger. I like QCD as a player, but I can't get these converted MP3s to play. The strange thing is that they will play on almost any other player (even some crude basic players).

MIDI files depend on the soundcard to sound properly, if someone has an old soundcard the MIDI won't sound like in a higher end sound card. Converting them to MP3 is helpful if you are doing karaoke things or ther DJ applications.
I have made some MP3's from MIDI files before with QCD and haven't had any trouble so I'm unable to help here.

Not necessarily. If a software midi synth is used, it will sound pretty much the same on any comp. For example, DirectSound's software MIDI synth, which I'm pretty sure is what QCD's MIDI plugin uses, or Yamaha's SoftSynth.
My suggestion: try doing the conversion using QCD. MIDI input plug -> LAME encoder plug. If THAT doesn't work, I really don't know what to tell ya.
Of course, if you posted your resultant MP3s for the rest of us to take a look at, that may help too.

Dude, please tell me how you managed to convert .mid files to .mp3 files!
