Hi,

I'm new to QCD. I've started to rip my music into Ogg for play on my Palm, and then decided that I should install a player on my desktop computer as well. With ripped music on the harddrive it would be a waste not to have one. ;-)

Anyway, as a newcomer to QCD, I've three questions:

1. Ripping to Ogg: I've downloaded and installed the Ogg plugin from the website, but I end up with Ogg files, though very tiny. (~25 kB for 4 minutes of music.) The files are also "empty", no music in them. When loaded into the playlist in QCD, the file show up, play time 8 seconds to short and nothing happens when I press play. Ripping to mp3 gives a bigger file (~1 megabyte) but without any sound as well. What's wrong here?

2. Skins: Is there any skin that's less intense on computer resources than others? I don't won't anything fancy, but rather something that needs as little memory as possible.

3: Paths: As a swedish user, my root catalog for my music isn't "My Music" but "Min Musik". I've changed three paths in the preferences, in Media Loading, Playlists and Encoding, but QCD still sometimes seems to think that My Music is the correct root folder. Have I missed a setting somewhere?

Thanks!

//Anders

2. skins: smaller skins use less memory. look for skins that use less space on the screen. my arizona skin "shades" up to almost nothing on the desktop (recently updated with more color schemes)

3. paths: does this help?

1. Is probably caused not by the encoder, but by the CD Ripper failing to read the CD effective (probably just reads a bunch of 0's). Some CDRoms dont play well with QCD's ripper yet.

2. Yield is a good skin for simplicity, size and features.

Shex Satellite is in my opinion the best skin in the compact category.

But if it's the ripper, how come that the mp3-file is so much larger but still with no audio?

Anyway, I'm installing on another computer to test QCD there.

Unfortunately not.

Maybe MP3 doesn't compress 0's as well as Ogg.
