Boy, you've sure got that right. I'm still trying to figure out the logic of a mathematical relationship between the number of "songs" one has and the number of plugins one needs.... :silly: Maybe if I get 700 "songs" I can throw all my plugins away..... :cross-eye:

yeh that review should be deleted, its just bringin the score down needlessly.
http://www.quinnware.com/skins.php?skin=203 Comment of abstart
http://www.quinnware.com/skins.php?skin=30 Comment of arw2004
And I know that arw2004 has been giving such comments elsewhere too, just can't remember where.

If it was up to me, I'd leave these reviews where they are. I think it works positively when the only negative reviews a newbie sees are ones plainly written by a numpty. Besides, having no negative reviews looks a tad suspicious, don't you think.That's just my opinion, mind. The only "skins" I know anything about are used for a completely different purpose. :cross-eye

Of course bad reviews shouldn't be deleted. But comments like "Summertime is better" and giving all other skins a score of 5 because of that is just plain stupid! And rating 0 because you dont need a plug-in is not any better. I guess we are lucky that not all people do that! :puzzled:

It is painfully unfortunate that common sense is not prerequisite, and regrettable that it is not typically learnable. Ya either got it or ya don't. It seems obvious to me that "I don't need it" and "I like brand X better" are opinions, not facts or even critiques. It's only useless information that none of us needs. It's like walking into a McDonalds and saying that their burgers suck because you wanted pasta. :normal: :ermm: :normal: It's unfortunate that the folks who spend the many hours required to make these skins are made to suffer, to ANY degree, for the ignorance or thoughtlessness of others. In an effort to "throw them a bone"... perhaps they have an alternate perception of how to use the forum or the priviledge of offering their opinions...

Yes Tokelil, after some thought I agree, bad reviews shouldn't be deleted. But such drivel needs to be STRONGLY discouraged or we run the risk of ending up like the Winamp site ( I can just hear Roj, "Oh, no, NO!....the horror...THE HORROR!! :laugh: ) Please folks, if you want to rate something, good or bad, please do so with intellegence and commom sense.
Now, on the other hand, some of these "reviews" really are good for a laugh. (lemme see, I only have 20 "songs", I wanna use QCD, where the heck am I gonna find the 4000 plugins I need???) :cross-eye

Bad reviews should be left in place. However, obviously stupid and idiotic reviews like the one I mentioned, I feel, should be deleted. But I know Matt doesn't like messing with reviews, and for good reason. But come on -- stuff like "I have about of 6000 songs and heh... I don't need any additional plugins :))" should just be removed.
But come on -- stuff like "I have about of 6000 songs and heh... I don't need any additional plugins :))" should just be removed.Stupidity like this doesn't bother me, after all he admitted that he didn't even try the plugin. But J44xm makes a good point.
If a new QCD user is looking for a plugin that has some feature they want, and they find it but the rating is really low then they may be scared away. Hopefully they would read the reviews and decide for themselves... but what if the reviewer isn't as stupid. I can think of a million rating comments that aren't necessarily from idiots. For example, what good are reviews like these:
Rating=0 This plugin isn't good.
Rating=0 This plugin doesn't work.
Those are the kinds of reviews that drive me nuts... after all, if it really doesn't work then I want to make it work. But without any explanation from the reviewer as to what happens when they use the pluigin, I can do nothing. And without knowing why someone thinks it isn't good, I can do nothing. Perhaps a little note at the top of the review area that says something like "Before you post a bad review, have you tried contacting the author or reading the forums for help." Then again, morons don't read so maybe that would be a waste of Matt's time. :)

Or maybe we could all just lighten up a bit. There's no such thing as bad publicity. Surely, any new user who has got as far as the plug-ins page, "didnae' come doon the Clyde in a banana boat". As we say in these parts. I'm sure they'll work out what's real and what's bullshit.
It's nice to see such pride in a community however.

I think we all agree that it's unfortunate - mostly because the review and the rating don't have anything to do with the plugin. In general you should leave all reviews, good and bad, but that's easier to do when they're somewhat thought out and not a form of abuse.
Honestly, I have trouble seeing how a rating of 0 could ever be justified. Even if it didn't work for you, someone went through a lot of trouble to produce it in the first place. A rating of 0 pretty much assures that the reviewer should be culled, IMHO.
On the other hand giving a rating 100 with a review "wow, this skin is great" isn't much better. It really doesn't tell anything about why it's well it's so great. And pointing out what exactly is so good about it might give fresh ideas to other skinners. And a rating 100 basically means that it can't be improved...

I agree with Xymantix AND Qas. I would never give a zero. It takes time & talent to do even a bad skin. That effort automatically warrants quite a few points in my book. It also should be considered that, unless you're a skinner yourself, you're being given the opportunity to criticize something you can't do at all! Don't be an ass. If you have nothing constructive to say, it's likely you shouldn't be saying anything. THAT rule should also be applied to what Qas said. Reviews offering wisdom like "This rocks", and "greatest skin ever", and nothing else, don't really accomplish much. There IS no such thing as the perfect skin, (unless you design it yourself and make it EXACTLY how YOU want it). This automatically rules out a score of 100. A personal peeve of mine, is the reviewer who takes enough time to pick a number to rate it, but shares NO words at all. Tell us WHY it's bad or good. Tell us how it could be better or what problems you had with it. Don't be a half-assed, limp-wristed participant. :rolleyes:

I dont agree with the fact that everyone should also explain why a particular skin is so good. It's a question of personal preference and if someone decides to give a 100 and says "this skin is my all-time favourite" or something, then i dont see why that is a bad thing to say. In fact, its a positive statement and the skinner, IMO, appreciates that. Maybe more so than a longwinded explanation of why it's so good and why it appeals so much to the user's tastes.

Let's hear how the skinners feel about it.
What do ya say, skinners... would you rather hear constructive remarks, good and bad, or are you satisfied with a thumbs up/thumbs down kind of review?

I feel that backing up a rating with remarks on WHY the reviewer gave a plugin or skin that rating would help those considering whether or not to try a given item. An example: a new skin with a very positive rating (not 100) and a comment like "great fonts, very readable, resizable playlist" would definitely perk my interest. We don't need paragraphs, but just some basic justification.
"Perfect plugin - 100" or "This sucks - 0" may seem stupid, but so does "Just slightly above average - 53.27"
To summarize, tell us what makes it great, average, or poor.
