as the title says - tara's been updated to work with 4.5
Required to have QCD play Real Audio. * Caution: This is not the most stable plugin on the planet, but works reasonably well in my tests. This version DOES work in QCD v4.50+, but it only works with DirectSound and WaveOut playback plugins (NOT CROSSFADING).

In my test (just now) it does playback with the crossfading output-plugin i'm guessing so long as you don't have crossfading enabled.

All you need now is this:
http://musiclivesonline.com/software/qcdtara101.html

and the real alternative codec pack version 1.22 from here (or you can just have the real player itself installed):
http://www.k-litecodecpack.com/

to play your real media stuff in QCD 4.5!

I can play some real audio streams with this plugin, but not others. The ones that I can't play are fine when I use the Winamp Tara in the Winamp plugins manager. This is in QCD 4.50, with the WaveOut plugin.

Downloaded the newTara plugin, no luck. Locks the player (b80). Shows 04/18/01 in explorer. Tara still works fine in b67. However, it shows 03/27/04. Tried switching the dlls. No good. The /04 one doesn't work at all in b80. Any suggestions?

I've realised what I was doing wrong. I had real audio filename extensions still listed in the mp3 input plugin config, as required in order to get the Winamp Tara to work in the Winamp plugins manager. Because I had the mp3 plugin above QCD Tara 1.01 in my plugins list, QCD was trying to use the mp3 plugin to play some of the real audio streams and drawing a blank. The streams that I was able to play were the SpinAmp ones, which evidently take no notice of the mp3 plugin and go straight to QCD Tara. So by deleting real audio filename extensions from the mp3 config, I've now got everything working fine.

ace2701 - perhaps your situation is similar to mine?

Brian.. two problems. 1: disabled all instances of WApluginmanager - Spinamp seems to get the desired station now, but it shows as "blocked" in the playlist. 2: (and most important), I can't find Tara 1.01 anywhere in my preferences > input plugins folder. It shows up in the explorer folder (Quintessential player\plugins, but not when I use the player itself. I had the "blocked" problem before, but I can't remember how I was told to solve it. Anyone?

There are two download links on the Tara dl page, one for version 1.0 the other for 1.01. You probably can't find Tara because you're installing the wrong version, 1.00. You need 1.01 to work with QCD 4.5.

Try http://www.musiclivesonline.com/software/downloads/QCDTara_v1.01.exe

I was cursing Tara until I discovered the second dl link. Talk about bad web page design.

Ouch... :(

Sorry for your inconvenience. I try to keep the site (which is absolutely free for people such as yourself - but NOT for me mind you) up to date, but every once in a while things like forgetting to add a "1" to a few links just happen.

The link has been updated.

Great. I'll try it again when I get home this afternoon and let you know if it works.

After using the update for a few days, I find it isn't quite trouble free after all. After a stream has been playing for a while, my CPU usage goes up to 100% and stays there. This doesn't happen with the Winamp Tara in the Winamp plugins manager. Ah well - hj at MLO did say it isn't the world's most stable plugin, although I don't recall this glitch occurring with v.1.0 and earlier versions of QCD.

Well, I just couldn't wait ;) . Downloaded b81 here at work, and got Tara v1.01. Had a small problem (told me "unsupported function" or something the first few times I used it), but after fiddling around a bit, got it to work fine. Surprise is that it, (b81), creates a new folder in WINNT\Profiles\(my name)\Application Data\Quintessential Player. Contains CDDB and skins. Everything else is in the normal place. Stay tuned for report when I install Tara at home :calm: .

The plug-in in my quick tests seems fine with real media audio but give it video and woa! goes mad! the video is all squashed and if you try and resize it then it jumps across the screen and alsorts of weird things.

Tara works just fine for my needs, audio entirely. It seems a lttle buggy on streams though, needing the three finger salute to stop playing, and occasionally refusing outright to play a stream. (BBC streams so it's unlikely to be a server problem. They played fine on other players at the time.)

I need to thank the people at MLO. Thanks to them QCD is my complete audio player. Let me hoist a virtual :beer:

Thanks!

Hmm... I'm having a problem. I can't get the new Tara plugin to show up anywhere in my plug-in browser, and it's not listed in my plugins.ini file. I made sure I don't have Real extensions associated with any other plug-ins, and I did get the 1.01 exe file. My dll seems to be in the right place (it's dated 4/26/2004). Anyone else having this problem?

I'm wondering if it could have to do with the fact that I have QCD 4.5 installed in a different directory, other than the usual Program Files/Quintessential player. But it shouldn't matter, as the tara dll is in the correct plugins folder.

Maybe I should manually add Tara info to plugins.ini? Anyone have an example of this entry to post?

Thanks.

Try copying the .exe file to the plugin folder and install from there. It seems to have worked for me.

OK.. My bad. I did it at work (NT). Just did it at home (98SE). Didn't show up either. Went to plugins > Settings, flushed the cache, hit "load new plugins", and THERE IT IS! Just to make sure, I moved it to the top of the list. My SpinAmp is now back!! :silly:

Hey Hey! That's the one thing I didn't try, moving it to the top of the list. I just did that, and guess what? It works! Thanks Ace. Our long national nightmare is over... ;)

By the way, I had tried flushing the cach, and loading new plugins, but it still didn't show up. So, I went back to the directory where I had QCD 4.11 installed. I looked in the plugins.ini file and found the tara entry. It looks like this:

[Tara Audio Video Plugin]
Extensions=RA:RAM:RM:AVI:MPG:MPEG:SMI:SMIL:RMM:RNX :RMX:RV:RMJ:RPM
xPrefPos=0
yPrefPos=152
xSitePos=440
ySitePos=39

I pasted this into the plugins.ini in my QCD 4.5 folder. This made the plug-in show up in the plug-in browser. However, the streams still didn't work. But when I moved tara to the top of the list, it worked.

Which version did you update from? The later versions need Tara 1.01 to work.

What OS do you have. I'm sure you're following all the previous posts, maybe there's a solution in there for you.

I can't find QCD's Tara:
http://www.musiclivesonline.com/software.html
(error 404, all the pages for QCD are unavailable)

can anybody send me plug-in or working link to it?

thanks!

The author removed all the QCD pages from his website. He may repost them or even realease a new version... only time will tell. Someone on here may have a copy of the tara plug-in they can upload.
