Hi,
when i try to import an icon pack (Lich icon pack.dll 1 or 2), my screen display this :

http://membres.lycos.fr/metaphase/stk/QCD_0%20icone.gif

Traduction : 0 icons has been imported with success and assigned.
So, it's always the same icons by default. It's monotonous, especially for all extensions of Audio files :evolved:
.ThanX for Ur HELP.

Same here. It's been happening since i switched to version 4.50 from 4.11. It seems like QCD doesn't recognise the file types associated with it, at least when it comes to assigning icons from the icon packs. I've tried redoing the associations, and a clean install, but so far, nada.

Any idea how this can be fixed?

Likewise, I've had this problem since approximately b76 or so.

This is one reason why I stopped using QCD for a while, I intended to come back to it when certain issues were fixed, and this was way back at build 66. I just returned to see if there was any improvement (there are) but this isn't one of them.

Maybe I'll come back later.

Those who download the development builds and don't report the bugs they find:

a) probably will find that those bugs will remain in the next release
b) arent doing anyone any favours by keeping quiet and waiting due to a)

With all due respect, this and similar icon issues have been reported by me as well as several other forum members as far back as b73 See this thread (http://www.quinnware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1355&highlight=icons) , and here Thread 2 (http://www.quinnware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1614&highlight=icons)

I just loaded Lich's icons and OPhooey and they worked fine.
What OS's are you running on that causes trouble?

I'm not alone

I stoPPED too. I try for the moment a player called "Jet Audio".
It'shttp://newmistergif.site.voila.fr/images/smiley880.gif , all the more az I can choose my own icons. In fact, I use some Lich icon pack's icons that i had extract from and create a library (.icl) to my taste.

I used to use jet audio, it was rather poo :coffee: . Had some interesting effects mind you. Thankyou for your constructive post spiritoil really helped moved the discussion on, i see you like applying your own icons and emoticons to whatever you use. Anyway, I'm using Windows XP Pro SP1 and i've never had this problem, nor have I seen it on any other computer i've installed QCD on. The only way i've ever got this error is if i have nothing assosiated with QCD.

I'm running QCD on a Win98SE machine. Anyhow, when I installed version 4.11, Lich's icons came back up. (I'm back on 4.51, since the menus are more orderly and much nicer.)

It's not that imperative an issue for me, although I really would like to be able to differentiate my files.

I just installed the new version of Lich's Icon pack and I can't get it to work. The Icons just will not change. I get the message "31 icons have been assigned", but apparently they haven't. As some of you may recall, I've even had issues getting the default icons to install. Same with the older version of Lich's pack and the Phooey Icons.

Even with the default Icons, I'm stuck with the "green speaker" icon for ALL associated file types. I am able to reassign icons on a one-by-one basis, but a reinstall of QCD (or an upgrade), or a rebuild of the icons and I'm back to square one.

I'm running XP with SP2 (RC2) but it was the same with SP1. This isn't a biggie I know, it's just icons, but I'd sure like some more suggestions for a solution.

Sounds like something that needs to be fixed in the player itself.

Edit: Wait is this with 4.50 or 4.51?

This screenshot is 4.50, but 4.51 is the same. I experimented with it, then reverted to 4.50.

I should mention, since I seem to be one of very few that has this problem, I'm suspecting an incompatibility somwhere between QCD and some other piece of software on my system that is trying to manage icons, but I haven't a clue what that would be.

I do know that other folks have had problems with previous icon packs.

Incidentally, my post above is not meant to imply that there is anything wrong with Lich's newest icon pack.

I've seen the "0 icons imported successfully" in windows 98SE before. Quite a few times actually. Never had a problem in XP.

Yes, but mine doesn't say "0", it gives the actual number, 31 I think. That's what I can't figure out.......this one really has me stumped.

I can't remember the last time I used the icon importer to change icons. I'm pretty sure it worked the last time I tried. I now change all icons manually through Folder Options>File Associations. I also went into the registry and deleted a lot of WMP 9 entries that were trying to steal associations.

is there any way i could get the 'old' icon for the filetypes back instead of using the 'new' gray speaker with green dot ? (the one that had the QCD logo look to it)

You could install one of the old versions of QCD that used that icon, just in another directory. You need the old icon dll.

You need the old icon dll.
so does this mean i have to use the older version of qcd or can i just 'grab' the "icon.dll" and put it somewhere (do tell where)?
also - how far back was this changed i can't remember when the transition took place (somewhere between 4.1 and 4.5 i suppose)
do i need to uninstall the newer version first and save the icon.dll then reinstall the new one ?

would anyone care to enlighten me
it doesn't seem too difficult
but i'd be really keen on knowing how to do this without cocking it up
thanks...:skull:

I'd think that you can just install the old version in a different folder and then just grap the dll from there.

sort of
i had to keep 4.11 installed to get the desired result for some reason
also i didn't have to grab the icon.dll at all
weird aye...:skull:

having two players installed turned out to be overkill
i reinstalled 4.51 and thanks to the other current icon thread i realised i could get away with choosing to use the (saved) icon.dll from 4.11 sweet.

discovery > just prior to uninstalling both 4.11 and 4.51 i discovered neither of them showed up in control panel/add remove programs

weirdness part one > qcd now crashes often
weirdness part two > qcd will no longer play any video files

same plugins
same configuration
SAME VIDEO FILES (they are not new)

would anybody be keen on making this icon work for 4.51?

qcd will no longer play any video files

ok i found the reason video files weren't playing
it has to do with my irregular use of the winamp plugins manager
i installed winamp 5 , opened its plugin folder and copied them all
created a folder "wa_plugins" and stuck them all in there
and put that into the qcd plugins folder
(i keep a copy of this in my install files folder so i don't have to install winamp again)
then mapped the winamp plugins manager to it
it works well apart from one thing
winamps "in_dshow.dll" was preventing video playback in qcd!
i deleted it and all is well...for now:skull:
