View Full Version : SysTrayPlayer-like skin?

Okay, this one would essentially be for me and the other SysTrayPlayer (http://www.netean.com/stp/)-likers out there. I've attached a picture of how it looks. Hopefully someone has a bit of experience with the program (it's quite straightforward) and might be interested in constructing a simple skin like this, with a few simple visual upgrades perhaps.

Some functionality notes:

That is indeed a progress bar behind the song title. I suppose this ability wouldn't be possible in QCD since clicking on the title controls the title-scrolling. (In STP, clicking anywhere in the title/progress bar moves the progress bar. The text is static.) Maybe the progress bar can be placed between the title display and the volume controls.
As for the letters (which spaces could be a bit wider): I opens the track editor; E, the equalizer; P, the playlist; and T and A (ahem) seem to just pop up a menu of all the songs in the playlist for easy track selection. They seem to do the same thing ... They might be one button -- TA.
If someone does decide to undertake this project (which, for an experienced skinner, would be fairly simple, I imagine), you might download STP if you're not familiar with it. It's a standalone program -- no install, no Registry entries. It really runs straight from the system tray. All the windows you see in the screenshot -- the EQ, the playlist, and the "MiniBar" -- are optionally shown by right-clicking the tray icon, FYI.

Too, it's my hope that I could use the resulting skin to learn more about creating simple skins for QCD (via dissecting it myself). (In a pinch, I can find something like Simple in Silver, I think it's called, to work on.) Maybe the author would allow variations to be created and posted individually or submitted for publication as part of his or her skin.

Well, let me know if you're interested. Any STP-likers out there? (It's no QCD, of course -- but it's got its ups. Incidentally, the missing source code was found, so there's a possible future for STP development.)

Hi!, I just installed the QCD player and like it a lot!
and yes, I also love the STP player, but too bad it's
old and won't play mp4 or Ogg or some other formats :(
fortunately the QCD seems to be just what I was
looking for to substitute it :)

I downloaded a skin called Ergo9x, maybe we could ask
the one who made it if he gives permission to modify it
to make it look more like the STP one.

(yes, I know this message is old)

It would be awesome if somebody modified it.

hi, I started to modify it this weekend, but ... I don't have the permission, I downloaded the guide to skin the QCD player and played with it. I sent a mail a few minutes ago to Ant McArov, the person who made it, it'd be of great help to use it as a base :)

here's a pic of the modified ergo skin so far:

(copy and paste the link in a new window, it doesn't allow some direct linking...)

hi, I received a response from Nikin, the ergo9x author, and he
gave permission to modify it :)

cool, I have this so far:

calvin and hobbs are classic
there is a cartoon page in the new zealand herald that features the antics of these two, jolly good.
regarding the thread topic, i think i'm a bit lost...:cross-eye
is this a qcd skin or a different player?
if it's a qcd skin i'd use it, and yeah it looks cool.

while we're on the subject of tray controls
do you guys know of any skins for qcds tray controls plugin?
i'd use it but it looks so naf.
also i couldn't find the thread/post this was in but some dude a few months ago was wanting a plugin to send information to an led display thing to show track playing information, sort of like the scroll in taskbar stuff but, say, on top of the monitor. which would SO rock if it worked.
but as i said i can't find said post/thread, if anyone trips over it in their travels i'd be keen on a link to it so i can track this guy down and see if he came to any resolve.

hi, thanks. this is a skin for QCD, I was looking for something similar to an old mp3 player called STP, because of its simplicity and so easy to use, and found the QCD player and the great ergo9x skin, so that's it, QCD skinned.

what's the tray plugin you mention? what does it do?

The plug is Traycontrols. Here it is in action. As you can see, there's really no need for the transport controls on the player. A skin which just has a playlist, add & remove, volume and progress bars would be perfect for me.

Here is a screenshot of the True Launch bar media control 'system tray' skin. (well actually toolbar but it comes down to the same thing). There are other skins available too.
