Maybe a Foobar-like interface would win some converts or fence-sitters. Just an idea I had while reading in alt.comp.freeware ...
that couldn't be to hard... i'll see what I can come up with tonight.

Wow, that's great! Yeah, I realized earlier that there weren't many straightforward, no-frills type of skins (that I can think of). I know of the Office family, but that's all that came to mind. Well, thanks!

But there is no volume bar :( Can this still be added?
I didn't see a volume bar on foobar.

Very nice, Matt. I like! Just one observation: the drop down menus (playback, playlist etc.) won't go away unless you actually select one of the options. I.E, you can't just click outside the menu to close it. A minor thing, and certainly nothing to lose sleep over. It's a damn sight better than anyhting I could come up with!
thats because they arn't typical windows menus, they're extensions. The menus had to be faked.

I mean, it's kind of like taking a Porsche 911 Carrera 4 to a chop shop, removing the body and mounting a Chevette body on the chassic and drivetrain...

Foobar does have its good points....
Foobar does have its good points....None that I can think of where it isn't equalled (and generally eclipsed) by QCD. :)
Most especially, QCD doesn't have Hydrogen Audio so-called "cognoscenti" (read: folks harboring the misconception that they know everything about audio) associated with it.

No, nothing major, but the database behind foobar is a nice feature, allowing for much faster file tag loading, and its customizable sorting, and sort selected is also very useful. And the fully fledged plugin architecture is also awesome.
The important thing to remember about foobar is it is not run by hydrogen audio, it only uses its forums to host its own. The player itself is solid.
For those that only want a speedy audio player, foobar is a good option, but qcd is better in my opinion. Why? The skinning, and the community mainly.

The skinning, and the community mainly.Well, since I don't do plugins (apart form the obvious input plugins for various formats) and my idea of a database is a well organized directory structure on my various internal servers (there are six active machines in this house, all rigged to the gills with quality multimedia and soon a full-fledged Home Theater / Multimedia Server)...
...no advantages there for me. :)
I remember when the player debuted, the lofty pronouncements that accompanied it and I have also observed the reality as it has unfolded. Given that reality, quite frankly I view it as an exercise in overblown elitist hype in most instances.
But hey - whatever floats a person's boat. :)
Here I have a leaner, faster, more attractive and more user friendly solution with impeccable audio quality, a terrific and thoroughly competent developer as well as a thoughtful and intelligent user community and above all, no hubris and overblown hype.
Style has met functionality and their offspring is quite a thing to behold (and hear).
Where I come from, that's called the best of all possible worlds. :)
