CD problem Help, upgraded my Lite-on 48x24x48 to a Lite-on 52x32x52, now no music cd's will play on anything but win's media player. When i put in a music cd my file finder box comes up??? looking at drive E:, even tho properties shows it as a audio cd in the drive. I can start QCD and say Load CD and it starts playing and loads playlist starts playing, shows time and everything but NO SOUND, and same thing with with my other 2 players, BUT when i start windows media player the cd's play fine. ALL assocations are set correctly QCD is my default, autoplay is on and set correctly.....this is driving in NUTS anybody have any ideas what putting a new drive in might have done???
buy the way, if i put in a cd with mp3's on it and go play them they work fine from QCD.
this started with QCD 4.11 and still the the new GREATER 4.5 ver
thank

CD problem Help
This isn't a QCD problem - this is good old Windows. Right click on the device in question in Explorer, choose properties and the AutoPlay tab. Make thy changes as required and save...

been there done that, don't fix it. it's funny that QDC and the other players will read the cd's (name's and everthing and actual play them just no sound)
Go into Preferences->Plugins->Input, select the CD Audio plugin and click configure. On the Playback Methods tab, set your CDroms to use Digital Audio Extraction.
Try that and let me know how it goes.

and you're sure you connected ALL your wiring in there ?
i don't know how you have your gear setup so i can't suggest too many things but how about >
plugs not put back?
wires connected?
volume on front of drive turned down too low ?
volume on amp too low?
volume in windows too low or off?
disconnected soundcard?
maybe your new drive is just bung and you should return it and get it replaced or put it in a mates computer and test it out ?
are you running an amp or not?

You're correct in that it's a wiring thing. Seems like most new computers these days dont bother putting the cable from the CDRom to the Soundcard which is why the CD plays but you get no sound.

Is this what I'm thinking, namely tying into XP's digital playback using the system bus instead of the old style analog cable from the CD player?

6 of one half dozen of the other. Only difference is if you set QCD to do CDDA instead of XP (or both) you get some added benefits.

...which are?
...which are?
DSP/EQ/Ripping support.

With XP that cable isn't necessary. It supports digital playback across the system bus which is infinitely preferable to using the REALLY poor DACs inherent in all cd-roms, then passing that now-badly-debauched signal across a piece of wire best used for a telephone conversation...
With the audio flowing digitally across the bus, your soundcard DACs do the translation for your speakers (if you have analog speakers) and if you have a M-Audio Revo like me, that means using AKM DACs usually used in high-end Anthem amplifiers and the like.
DSP/EQ/Ripping support.
Ah soooooooooo! :)

Paul
That fixed part of it, at least i get sound again..... but still no autoplay. It only autoplays if QCD is up and running (but my filefinder still starts too). So to me XP's autoplay is not working correctly even tho it is set to start QCD. If QCD in not running for some reason when i put in a music cd it brings up my filefinder (like it's trying to search for a file). EVERYTHING!!! is set correctly and associations are fine. All i did was a straight switch out of cd drives, i did not even unplug from the sound card just the back of the cd drive. It's more like XP disassociated music CD's from autoplay. Can u tell me what & where the reg. setting should be to start QCD when u put in a cd or does it look at the cda file to start playing??? This is getting weird.
ALL data cd's work, all burning works, ripping works EVERYTHING else but autoplay of music cd's.
Thanks for the help guys

I'm not fully up on XP, but it should be similar to Win2000. Go to My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > File Types and see what actions are associated with AudiocD (probably in the N/A section). The only action you want is Play. Delete anything else.

thanks traveller, but the autoplay IS set correctly THAT is the problem either the new cdr or xp goofed up something. thats why i hope Paul can give me the registry settings i need to change\setup correctly if maybe they got messed up or something or are not being set, and thats why music cd's are not being autoplayed. only thing i can think of, guess i could put the old cd-r back in to see if it goes back to working correctly like it did before the new one!!!
thanks

here's a whack-it-with-a-hammer spproach:
Uninstall the CD drive in Hardware Manager and reboot. See what happens when Windows detects and reinstall sit.

Thanks ALL, but it's something messed up in XP's reg i'm sure now... autostart will not work at all with ANY player even with the old cdrw installed.
even tho the audiocd play command "c:\program files\quintessential player\qcdplayer.exe" /autoplay "%1" in the reg seems to be correct (and sim if i change it to autoplay to the other players) no luck.
so i wonder if it is one of the autoplayhanderler's or handerlerproperties of which there are 3 of, which might be messed up. (and they might not be the right things), there are things related just to the lite-on cdrw drive but they seem to be ok but i'm not that good to out guess them, so it might be time for an XP reinstall ;-{ .... but i have a new case, mother board & PSU coming anyways so it will be just something more to do.
thanks again for all the help
