View Full Version : Altec-Lansing conundrum...

So far I've been more than impressed with the calibre of community members that Quintessential attracts, and the wealth of knowledge shared between all of you, so when I hit a roadblock I thought, "I must go to the mountain..."
I have these old Altec-Lansing satellites that I'm quite fond of. They have above average power, great tone, big sound/small package (relatively), and look like they might have lived on Mike Brady's drafting table. They have a "sub" out (1/8" stereo) on the back. I picked up a sub from an ACS48 set on eBay, expecting it to be a plug-n-play kinda thing. It escaped me that Altec has a magical cable that connects the controls of the satellites to the sub... this includes the power switch. To sum it up... I have a car with no key nor ignition switch. Anybody got any ideas on how I can McGyver this thang into workin' for me?

I believe Spidercrab and myself are the two people who have Altec Lansing speakers (ADA 885s). But I'm afraid I don't have anything to suggest in this instance, other than a web search for suppliers of Altec Lansing components. Sorry not to be of more help!
PS Aren't I due for promotion from `Foreman' yet?

I brought the sub to this dude at work. He's an older gent who doesn't NEED to work, he just does it cuz he'd lose 'is bleedin' 'ed if he stayed home. Too smart for his own good, this one. He searched the entire WWW untill he found the schematic for the main chip, which he could only find in Japanese. So he translated the schematic, learned the function of each lead, and with a couple of jumper wires and toggle switches, he kicked its ass! (Handy dude to keep around, I'd say!) So now my 5 dollar eBay find is a healthy happy thunderbox! Thank you all for your time and consideration.
