Is it possible to port quintessential player to linux or unix ? I love this player but cant use because I have to use linux all the time . Please do something for the unix users.
All the unix users would be grateful if you guys can do that :) .
Tamim
No port planned. But I hear QCD works well in Wine.

Try using an alterate Playback plugin?

I had sound when I tested. I guees that was pure luck, but I recommend that you experiment with the sound-settings in QCD and in Linux.

the consensus in the old forums was that it worked about half of the time - some machines it does, other machines, it doesn't. don't know what factors make the difference though.

Maybe this is a question for the FAQ?

I to would love to see a linux version of QCD. There is no other mp3 player that even comes close, but I switched to Linux because everything I do for work and school is on linux/unix, so now I have to use xmms. The sound quality between QCD and xmms/winamp is night and day though, and I miss the easy tag editing of QCD.
BTW, I too tried wine, and although it appeared to be functional, I got no sound output. I'll try again though and play with the plugins as mentioned.

I can do nothing but add my vote here.
I had to switch to Linux some time ago. I managed to restore almost every feature I used in Windows, but I have to use xmms to play music.
Yes, as far as I know xmms is the best Linux player. I've tried several others and didn't like them (I mean I disliked them even more than I dislike xmms :-)). But still, xmms is really poor compared to QCD.
Actually QCD is the program I miss the most in Linux...
Why the hell is there no decent player in Linux?????!!??
I know there is no port planned, and it probably will never be ported, as Paul Quinn said so(I think working QCD out on windows represent enough work for a single person... ).
But still, Paul, have you ever considered the fact that bringing QCD to Linux would be such a leap forward that you would be considered as a Living God?? :-)
Write your name in History!!!
(You will notice that I miss QCD so that even running Linux, and thus not being able to use QCD, I still wander on the website!!)

The only reason I stay with Windoze is so that I can use QMP. If there were a port to Linux I'd switch in a heart beat.:carrot:

Any particular reason? Amarok is at least QMP's equal - and it even has some more stuff built in such as Last.FM reporting and streaming...I've always found Linux to be far better in the media department to be honest.
The only thing I don't rely on it for is gaming, and even then it can play World of Warcraft and Guild Wars fine. I only really keep my XP x64 kicking about for compatabilty, and the fact Shewolf would kill me if I had a Linux only PC.

maybe this is why b115 is taking so long!!!The b115 is taking so long because the DB engine is being rewritten in SQLite and a lot of interface stuff apparently is being cleaned up.
