This guide is written to HydraIRC version 0.3.133-Test. I will try to keep it up to date if something is radically changed. HydraIRC is found at www.hydrairc.com (http://www.hydrairc.com/).
If this is you first time using HydraIRC please check HydraIRC GettingStarted. (http://hydrairc.com/wakkawiki/GettingStarted)
How to connect to #qcd:
Since the Slashnet network isn’t in the server list when HydraIRC is installed, the first thing we need to do is to add it to the server list.
Go to the “File” menu -> “New Server” or press CTRL+N which brings up the “Connect” dialog.
Click the “Add Network” button and enter “Slashnet” in the “Network Name” field. Just keep the “Preferred Identity” as “Use Default”. Click OK.
Select “Slashnet” in the “Select Server” panel and click on “Add Server”. In the new dialog write “irc.slashnet.org” as “Description”, “irc.slashnet.org” in the “Address” field and 6667 in the “Port” field. Make sure “Network” is set to “Slashnet” and click the OK button.
In the “Connect” dialog select the newly added irc.slashnet.org server and click OK. You are now connected to the “Slashnet” network.
In the new window write: “/join #qcd”.
Welcome to the #qcd channel!
How to join #qcd automatically when HydraIRC is started:
Go to the “Options” menu -> “Prefs...” which will bring up the Preferences dialog. Go to “Command Profiles”. Write “OnStartup” in the “Command Profiles” field and click “Add”. Click on “OnStartup” and write “/newserver irc.slashnet.org” in the “Command” text area.
Write “Slashnet_OnLoggedIn” in the “Command Profiles” field and click “Add”. In the “Command” area write “/join #qcd”.

My ChatZilla guide v1.0 is currently at http://www.sheepeh.co.uk - expect it to change a bit in the looks department because I just threw it together to help you guys out a bit, but the main layout should stay the same.
Wrote a tutorial for Opera. Notify that Opera only has irc-client in version 7.50. You can find the tutorial from here:
Edit: Doesn't exist anymore.
BersIRC is a free (and open source) client available at http://bersirc.free2code.net/
First thing to do is to create a new user profile by going to File, New User Profile. Call the profile whatever you like, doesn't really matter. On the next screen, Your Name and E-Mail Address can really be whatever you want, you don't have to use your real info. Your Nickname is what will appear to others when you're logged in, and Alternative Nickname is just that: a second choice. In the IRC Server box, enter irc.slashnet.org The other fields can be left as they are for now. Then just hit next/finish until you're done. Next time you start up BersIRC, it should automaticly connect to Slashnet (the network hosting #qcd).
Once you're connected, the Favorite Channels box will pop up. Since #qcd isn't programmed in, click on the Add button to set it up. In the name box, enter #qcd, in the description box, put whatever you want (like "Unofficial QCD IRC channel" or something), and in the network box, enter "Slashnet". After that, highlight the #qcd entry on the faves list, and hit Join. You're in!
Alternately, to join #qcd automaticly, go to Tools, Options, and select Connections from the list at the left of the box that pops up. In the box under Perform These Commands On Connect, type in /join #qcd. Then next time you start BersIRC, it should take you straight to #qcd.
