Hi, was wondering if downloading a music file off Kazaa such as an mp3 at 128kbps bitrate and then encoding to a 420kbps mp4 file will make it have better quality? Or will it just make the file bigger and a high quality replica of the already average quality 128kbps mp3 file? Also is this how it works with ripping CDs too?
Ya I'm kind of a newbie to this stuff :P

Changing a file from one type to another, called transcoding, will lessen quality.

Ya I'm kind of a newbie to this stuff :P hi man ,
if you can ,try to download the highest bitrate you can .
but as far as mp3's go they are lossy as hell so you'll never really get
'high quality'.
if you really want high quality and want to wait a lot longer ,download the .wav of the same file
(if it's available)
then play around with COPIES of that file until you are happy . have a look at my endeavours elswhere in the audiophile section , mainly regarding .ape files
(which incidentially are 100% LOSSLESS)
so they are fairly large but not as much as a .wav.
was this at all helpful?
