nice one guys .
i thought i was going mental when i saw
"your line speed is approximatley 350 kbps"
compared to 56k dial-a-snail it's mind numbing ...
by the way i'm uncapped @ 350 kbps , which is pleasant.

Well if the server is located in new zealand, its not really the best case speed for me. Anyway:
Your line speed is approximately 1026.2 Kbps or 125.8 K bytes/sec
Your line speed is approximately 338.9 Kbps or 41.5 K bytes/sec
I've got 512/512 ADSL so shouldn't that be a bit faster?

Capped? Not sure what you mean by that. It's a 2048 Mb/s that is shared with a few others. Normally getting a download speed of around 200 kB/s when downloading from good servers.
Qaz: You shouldn't count too much on that result since there is all kinds af variables to consider. Check if your ISP has a speedtest and try that instead. Its the speed from you to your ISP that you pay for... Not from you to some server in new zealand. :cyclops:
Try one of the local servers at:
http://www.dslreports.com/stest?more=1
Got around 1700 kb/s when using a Danish server.
Btw. that site has some good tools to test your connection and surgestions on what might be wrong if it is to slow.

TOKELIL -
i'm referring to a maximum monthly download limit say 1gb per month then the connection either gets throttled down to laughable 56k or a charge per mb is added for every mb over and above the quota.
telecom in NZ charge (when using dsl)
10cents per 1 mb over the limit
(depending on what plan is being used)
telecom are crimminals!

I only know of one company that is capping thier connection here in denmark. All others have no limit.
They have some rules that says you aren't allowed to abuse thier connection, but I have only heard of one person that has violeted thier "rules". (Was downloading 1-5 GB of porn a day, or something... :cyclops: )

I have to most pityful internet connection in the world. Too expensive for a too slow connection. However it seems the flat i live in will be demolished at the end of december 2006 so regardless i'll be moving to some other location if not abroad. Nothing is certain yet.

Toronto also has some real weirdos as well. I got upgraded yesterday from 2Mbps to 8Mbps!
*EDiT* - On that topic, my ISP tells me my line will take the next 10 days to "stabilize". Is this normal, or bullshit? At the moment it's no faster than before but when I first installed the new router I saw speeds of 7.7Mbps. What gives?
from NZ:
Download Speed: 1619 kbps (202.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 441 kbps (55.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
DSL Reports - Los Angeles, CA:

Yeah that's about right, mine upgraded a week or so ago and has been steady since almost day 2 but I also know people who had to wait until day 10 before they saw a steady connection. You will only get the speed your line is capable of, hence the "up to 8mbps" you will have in your description. Also you may not see a speed increase for part of those 10 days until your line does stabilise, something to do with BT setting the speed. Mine stabilised at 7616mbps and my ISP says my stable rate is 7000 and it has stayed there constantly, but speedtests only say I'm getting 4mbps and tells me I can download at 440k/s (although real world speed hovers around 500k/s and can peak at 600k/s) It did take a few days of being stable for my actual speed to increase, I was still stuck on 2mbps speeds.
Check out this page http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php Stick in your phone number and postcode and then on the following page click the BT ADSL from the box and it should say something like "According to BT Wholesale, your line should be able to support a 5.5Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max." This will give you an indication of what speed you can hope to expect from your line.
What ISP are you with?

The term "Family Forum" is popping up a lot lately. Maybe we need to change the forum name to Family Forum. And even QMP to FP (Family Player).

I'm with BT and when I did the initial postcode and number check it said 4Mbps. I just got carried away when I came into the house and saw it saying 7.7Mbps. I'll have to give it some time.
IMHO there's nothing wrong with the odd swear word - in context. Inthewoods has occasionally swore at me but I realise it's because he's upset. I see nothing wrong with that. However, things like "sucking donkey b***s" is offensive because it's gratuitous. Pointless.

I was just giving an example where swearing can be placed in a funny context too without offending anyone here on the forums. Ever heard Monty Python's the history of the word f*ck? You should ;) Go here (http://www.sigg3.net/myself/fuck.html)
