I wonder if anyone can tell me how to get rid of all the non QCD entries when I right click on a media file or folder?
I don't want to delete these other players (who needs to when hard drive space is so cheap?) but I don't need the clutter in something that should be quick and clean.
Off topic. I'm old enough to be amazed by my hard drive statement above. I remember back to the days when if you wanted a computer to do something you had to program it yourself and if you didn't have a cassette tape to save your program it wasn't much of a problem since you could usually hold the code in your head.
This reminds me of another reason why I love QCD. It does one thing really well, play tunes, and gives you the option to expand its functionality from there. Old guys like me hate bloat and clutter in our software.

My only suggestion is to take a look at WinT's modification page (http://wint.virtualplastic.net)... there should be a guide on there to completely customize the right-click context menus in windows... other than that, I'm not sure how it could be done.

Most programs have options somewhere in the settings to disable the entries on the context menus they put there... but some programs, like windows media player 8, aren't that clever...

I'm aware of QCD's Explorer Intergraton but this aside, is it normal to load WMP by right-clicking an MP3 to "Copy to Audio CD," "Play," or "Add to Playlist?" I'm running WXPPro w/ WMP8 with the video default plugin disabled in b73. All audio extensions are correctly assigned to QCD. Thanks.
I love this build! Continuing congrats to Matt and Paul.

I think thats WMP's context menus, so yes, clicking those would load up your mp3's in wmp...
PS. I HATE wmp, purely for that reason, i cannot find an option anywhere to get rid of those entries!

The man is right : Virtualplastic has extensive tutorials on modifying menus of all sorts. A person could spend lots of time fine-tuning . :coffee: Just remember:hack at your own risk! If you go too far, you may lose things that you need. Trust me, reinstalling your entire working environment is not fun :hurt: .

Anyone have any further thoughts about this, please? I'm keen to get rid of those three Media Player items from the Explorer right-click menu, without getting into editing system .dlls. Many thanks.
There are some programs that can tweak your system pretty safely. TweakXP for one. Haven't used that one for myself though. And can't remember what was te one that I used...or did it have that option...

You could always uninstall WMP.;) Other than that, I'm not sure what you can do that's easy, unless going to My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > File Types will allow you to "unregister" WMP from the afflicted media types. This might be more time consuming than hacking the menu.

Simple. Get JV Powertools from macecraft.

i find that changing dlls by hand to be the cleanest, but i'd really reccomend backing up your critical system files before you do that and possibly become familiar with boot discs if you don't use something like norton ghost or bing to back up the entire drive (there are fat32 and ntfs writers that fit on boot cds and floppys incase you have to manually replace the files) or you could just try to learn to fix things through knoppix (if you're not already interested in the penguin, i wouldn't reccomend trying to learn it just to do this)
