Hmm. No problems with AVG6 here. You should use anti-spyware applications too.

I don't like the free version of AVG for one reason, if it finds a virus it just brings up a message box that only allows you to run a full system scan, not to just specifically deal with that file at that time.

"yeah... theres a trojen on your computer" "oh good have you deleted it?" "nah, can't find it". Not helpful. I had this trouble with AVG also. It turned out that the marauding software was classified as spyware, so I couldn't find it with other virus scanners either (including Tauscan, a scanner that works specifically on trojans...http://beta.quinnware.com/forum/images/emots/rolleyes.gif). Ad-aware found and removed the parasite just fine though. (At least my firewall stopped the beastie from phoning the mother ship...http://beta.quinnware.com/forum/images/emots/evolved.gif)

Other than this one occasion though, AVG has been great.

The free edition of AVG isnt meant to give you the features of a commercial antivirus program. If you want really good antivirus software, the best thing to do is to buy the shareware version of AVG. It's a lot less cheap than Norton or McAfee. It also takes up a lot less space and less RAM. Just a suggestion. I'm not forcing you.

I've used AVG for some quite some time now without problems. I've tested AVAST recently, but found that the resident shield is pretty slow and don't have any rescue disk option (BTW: AVG DOS scan&destroy is excellent).
