The Quintessential Market is nearly ready to open...
The QuinnMarket is a CafePress shop that sells QCD merchandise...
I've sent off the legal documents to Matt, and once I receive a reply from him as long as his documents, I'll be able to begin creating products for the shop!
All products for the shop will be created by you, QCD users, at the QuinnMarket Forums (http://forums.quinnmarket.buildtolearn.net). At these forums, there is a five stage process we will go through in creating a product:
Stage One: We make a poll to decide which product to create
Stage Two: We accept Logo and Slogan submissions for the products
Stage Three: We make a poll on what Image from Stage Two to use for the product
Stage Four: We get authorization from Matt to use the image on a product
Final Stage: The Product is Released
While most choices will be made with a poll, ultimately the choices will be made by Myself and Matt.
You'll notice that only myself can begin a topic in the Assembly Line Sub-Section, while everyone can post in a topic there. This is to make sure that we maintain a clean appearance. There is a forum set up for General Discussion of the shop than everyone can post in!
Here are the links:
Forums - http://forums.quinnmarket.buildtolearn.net
Shop - http://quinnmarket.buildtolearn.net
Enjoy, and feel free to visit and post. Once I receive a reply from Matt, we can begin product creation!!!

Here is a list of the products we will be able to sell (we'll be able to sell anything that isn't under Premium Products: Product List (http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/products/index.aspx)...
And here's a list of the cost for the products. Everything will be sold at base cost, which seems to be a reasonable cost. Also, this ensures to no profit is generated from the store: Prise List (http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/help/pricing.aspx)

I wouldnt mind something like a coffee mug or baseball cap.
Are there minimum orders to get those prices?
I looked over the prices and to be honest I wouldn't mind a small markup for the Quinns. How do they earn a living anyway?

I think Paul and Matt want it so that there is no profit from the merchandise, that is what makes them so special, that to me shows that they aren't interested in the money, just the development of the player and user community.

A) There are no minimum orders to get those prices at all, of course, it you order more to save on shipping...
B) Paul and Matt have actually made it very clear to me that they want the store to be completely nonprofit...

Quinnmarket forum is dead now for at least a few days already  I hope it will be online again soon.

I've been having problems with my host. Give me a couple days and we'll be on another, much better host. I've backed up the database, so everything is saved...

New (better) Host, Uploading Info, Trying out Backed up MySQL database (which means that I should have all the posts and accounts saved), it sould be ready by tomorrow...
Sorry for the problems, but I've ditched my old host, and found a much better one...
I'm simply waiting on a reply from Matt...
Oh, and if anyone has any questions, my contact email is: delta@DAMNSPAMquinnmarket.buildtolearn.net (remove DAMNSPAM)
Oh, and the new website and forums will be at: http://quinnmarket.buildtolearn.net

Good job Delta  :)
ATM at least, linky no worky. And it looks like you're putting YaBB SE on there? If you didn't know, that project has been superceded by Simple Machines (http://www.simplemachines.org/). (unless I'm mistaken and they're still using yabbse in their filenames)
DeltaGuy
03-18-2004, 06:39 PM
The link doesn't work yet because I've still been setting up the forums... ;)
Oh, and I know about Simple Machines, I'm a member of their forums and I've been closely watching their development. I actually admin another Simple Machines forum, but since it is only in Beta Stages at the moment, and the Backup of the database I have is formatted for YabbSE, I'm going to install YabbSE at the moment...
I'm toying with the idea of setting up a phpMyChat room too, but I do have limits on Bandwidth and Server Space...
Gotcha. As for the chat, why not just an IRC channel + pjirc (http://www.pjirc.com/main.php) or something? My site has its IRC channel on Slashnet.

Gotcha. As for the chat, why not just an IRC channel + pjirc (http://www.pjirc.com/main.php) or something? My site has its IRC channel on Slashnet. The reason I'm considering the chat is simply because it's a script that came with cPanel X. I don't really like Java Chats, and I don't think it's really a necessity, but I may consider it because I have a MySQL database floating around with no use but I've heard the chat modules can be bandwidth hogs...
It allows the option to register too, or go in without registering, but registering reserves your name...
I'm not particularly crazy about Java chats either, but given a choice between that and a CGI-based chat, I'll take the java. Pjirc is a rather nice client, at least as far as Java clients go. And as you said, CGI chats can be rather bandwidth and system resource-unfriendly.
It allows the option to register too, or go in without registering, but registering reserves your name...
Pretty much any IRC network with some sort of nickserv will do that too. Plus the nice thing about IRC is that you can pick what you connect with, be it the java client, mIRC or whatever.

The client I was considering was a php client, not a cgi client...
Although it's often used as such, CGI != Perl. CGI can also be PHP, C++, etc.

Ah, sorry. I just said it because I know CGI boards, unlike php boards, are huge resource hogs...
And now, we're open again!
Our New URL is: http://forums.quinnmarket.buildtolearn.net
Just a few notes. After realizing how much time and effort it would take to restore the database, I decided not to. It would take me too much time and effort to do this. Instead, all previous members of the forums, will simply have to register again. I hope you don't mind, but one minute of your time saves me too much time spent pulling my hair out. ;) Currently only the forums are up, I'm working on the rest of the website.
We won't be able to actually start selling or designing product at the site, yet, however, until I get a legal form from Paul and Matt, which they simply have to scan up to me (I already sent one to them, and I've already mentioned this to Matt)...
In the meantime, we can discuss the forums and the shop at the site I have now. After a little while of building anticipation, I plan to start at the site...
Enjoy!
And we souldn't move any more, the site I have now is quite stable from what I've heard from other members hosted...
If ya did a fresh install, why not go straight to Simple Machines? ;) :P
DeltaGuy
03-19-2004, 06:20 PM
Because they are still in Beta Mode... ;)
And besides, I already had an install of YabbSE there...
Personally, I like YabbSE. They're fast, have many templates, and of course are good for saving on bandwidth... ;)
In the meantime, feel free to sign up! ;)

How would you guys feel about using MyBulletinBoard instead of YabbSE for the forums? For myself, it has a much better Admin Control Panel. For you, it allows you to select different themes. Plus, I like it better...
I've set up a board for you to try out here:
http://quinnmarket.buildtolearn.net/forums/index.php
Tell me what you think of it?
It also allows you to upload your own avatars. What do you think of it?
I like the default theme in mybullettinboard better than in yabbse. Hard for me to say which one wuold actually be better, but if you'd prefer mbb I see no reason why we wouldn't use that.

The only reason I wouldn't move is because I already had three people register, but it'll only take a minute to reregister. These forums are so much better for me in the Admin Panel...
Well, I'm one of them and I don't mind...
DeltaGuy
03-19-2004, 07:57 PM
Then I will move the forums, since myBB is much better, IMHO...
Tomorrow the old QuinnMarket forums will go down. In the meantime, be sure to register at the new forums...
This should be the last change, I hope... ;)
Note that once the old forums are taken down, the new forums will use the same url...
After tomorrow, you will be able to visit the forums at: http://forums.quinnmarket.buildtolearn.net

but I have no idea which one is better.

I prefer MyBB much better. It's been designed to be a freeware Forum Software based on vBulletin, for smaller communities...
Plus it has attachment capabilities! ;) Of course, YaBBSE had these too...

I'm the third (first!) one to sign up, and I say let's change. MyBulletinBoard looks much nicer (I prefer the lighter colour schemes). I've been signing up on so many forums lately, what's one more? Thanks for doing this, Delta.
PS: I'm signed up on the new (mBB) board already. Will that transfer when you make the switch? :paranoid:
DeltaGuy

Well now that you all know about the new forum, I've transfered the domain...
The address: http://forums.quinnmarket.buildtolearn.net now directs to the new MyBB forums...
Enjoy!
There are three themes to choose from on the new forums, I may add some more later...
Huh, I've never even heard of myBB. But apparently it's made by refuges from XMB who didn't like the direction it was going? I didn't like XMB either. :P I always thought YaBB seemed a bit cluttered. (I used to admin a YaBB Perl board) Has YaBB SE / SimpleMachines gained a decent templating system?
Myself, I'm a phpBB guy...

2 questions about the new board:
- How do you start a new thread? I can't find any sort of control, button, link, etc.
- Why can't I post replies? I am registered, activated and logged in, but I am not allowed to reply in the General Discussion thread. :depressed
I waited until the new board was up before activating, so there shouldn't be a problem there.
Update: I have now tried activation twice (via email link). The second time I got a message that my membership was already active, but my CP says that I am awaiting activation. I will try the alternate activation method and see what happens.
No joy in Mudville. I have now tried activating my account 3 times, and I still can't get all the way in. Also, changes in my profile are not being saved (related issue?). I wanna play, too!

I had no problem registering, you get an Email reply, go to the specified URL, and it tells you that you're activated. I then was able to post a "good job" note to Delta. His forum style is just as cool as this one  .
