View Full Version : Anyone with cover art in their id3 tags

I would appreciate it if you could test out this new version of Cover Art Vis to see if it works with your mp3's. Before I was using id3lib which is the official id3 reading library but it was too big for my purposes so I wrote my own code to get the cover from the id3 tag.
So anyone with cover art in their id3 tags I plead that you test out this plugin to see if it works and report back with the (hopefully successful) results. Thank you.
You'll notice that the plugin size has dropped dramatically because of this change, so I hope I can get any kinks worked out.

Done deal. Too, here's a screenshot of how the images inside the file are displayed in my tag editor.

I've yet to get this to work with ID3 tags. Just downloaded the latest plugin and still no luck.

1) Are you sure that there is album art in the tag? If you're not sure, open the file in notepad and search for "APIC."
2) If there is, can you send me a file, please? My email address is above.

Still didn't work but I figured out why. It seems that if ID3Tag is the last method, it fails.

If you have No Cover Available above ID3v2 then it will not load the cover from the tag because the No Cover Available image will never fail to load.

This isn't really related to cover art embedded in the id tag, but I notice that every few songs, the vis will show the "No Cover Art" image even though there is an image available. If I single-click on the vis area, the image will refresh to the correct image. Is this related to the crossfader or something?
I use the image list and filename template methods if that matters.

It might be that QCD isn't reporting the correct arist/album/track names, possibly because it hasn't loaded them yet. Usually, it will resend the track info when it does load it. What version of QCD are you using?

Sorry for being such a n00b... but how do you find out if "No Cover Available" is part of the mp3 encoding? I definately have the cover art embedded as I can see it in Notepad, but I get the "No Cover Available" icon when using the plug-in.
Thanks in advance for your help and love your plug-in idea! Now if I can just figure out what I'm doing wrong this time :)

Go to Quinn Player's Preferences, then to Plugins, then to Visual Plugins, and click on Cover Art Vis 2.93 and then click "Configure." The first dialog that shows up should be the Priority dialog. Here you can set in which order the plugin will look for covers. Move id3v2 to the top of the list.
I will change it in the next version so id3v2 starts at the top of the list by default(but this will only affect people who have yet to download the plugin).

Would love to have this running but it crashes QCD everytime.
Running Windows98se with latest version of QCD and plugin (installed gdiplus too).
I can see the configuration box with the various tabs but none of the browse buttons pop up a browse dialog box. QCD was running perfect before :disappoin
Any thoughts Acozz?
RV
I also tested it under win98, and crashed on a first attemp but then started to work correctly. Just take care to have the GDIPLUS.DLL in the root directory of QCD, and to stop any playback while in config.

Only additional thing i installed was the Cover Art plug in.
Went to preferences and still was unable to do anything (won't browse, won't save template formats etc).
Made sure the plugin was stopped and it played an mp3 fine.
Started the plugin (through prefs) and as soon as I try to play any file it crashes with an error in QCDCOVERARTVIS.DLL first and immediately after in QCDMP3ENC.DLL and then terminates my beloved QCD.
Ideas anyone?

No, nothing.
It looks like the config dialog box is just a mock-up of what the finished product will look like, 'cos the buttons and text boxes etc are all there but it doesn't do anything. No entries typed in are saved and there are no values in the list boxes.
I know that's not the case, as others are obviously getting on fine with it, but that's how it appears. Actually quite wierd.

If the text isn't showing up in the priority lists, then it must be a UNICODE issue.
I'll need to ask Paul.

Before I try it, two questions:
1:Do streaming radio stations have cover art in their mp3's?
2:Will this work with b67?

1) I doubt it.
2) Yes.
But you'd need to download GDI+ for it to work with Win98. I'd reccommend waiting for the release version if you haven't tried the plugin before.

Thanks. Since I've just cleaned up my QCD player, and it's working smoothly now, I'll take your advise.

What about downloading cover art?
What is the best way to do this? Music Match did a nice job with its super tagging but I quit using it a while ago.
This pluggin is only for viewing cover art and not downloading it correct?
thanks

Correct. I don't know of any cover art databases, so it really isn't possible.

so how do most people download cover art?
MusicMatch can't be the only game in town..
I know you can manually link them but that's a major pain.

I get them from amazon.com, just search for the album and they'll have a picture of the cover. Usually, it'll have a larger version available by clicking on it. They are about 300x300.

you can find album images for alot of albums here:

Amazon.com has many facilities to do "external" searches for pics and info in their database. Perhaps they let you use the base in exchange of a "buy it" button.
ACS is an excellent tool for getting covers. You'll find it here:

Cool - I've found pretty much any cover from allmusic.com and amazon.com. The allmusic.com site has some pretty accurate and interesting reviews - most of the albums are rated (out of 5 stars).
The Cover Art plugin is superb - although I just have the cover art in a separate directory rather than embedded.
Thanks very much for writing it :)
