does anybody have two or more soundcards ?
i'd like to know what the advantages/disadvantages of this setup are
i have one m-audio audiophile 2496 soundcard,
i'm sure it's enough (for now)
but could two be that much better if i get into some serious recording/producing
will two cards be (much of) an advantage
or am i just (thinking of) going overboard ...?

Hi Todd. I can't see why you'd need two soundcards. Maybe I'm missing something. Wouldn't be the first time.
I'm getting one of these (http://uk.europe.creative.com/products/product.asp?prod=517)

hi rory mate , i was just thinking of something pretty insane , get this man
qcd> dual soundcards >dual amps> 12 speakers per amp 24 speakers in total stick an infinity dial in the mix somewhere find dark side of the moon and freak out something serious
could prove interesting ... :skull:dangerous even :skull:

Or you could try a small mono radio (steepletone perhaps?), lock yourself in a darkened room and take lots of acid - same result, much cheaper. :reallymad

I have 2. My main is an M-Audio Revo which I use to play to to the PC's local speakers using QCD. The second is an Audiotrak Optoplay 24-bit USB card that is run via 3 x 5m USB extensions to my main domestic amplifier downstairs. I use Winamp to play through the Optoplay. This system works brilliantly and I have been using the Opto play for a couple of years without any problems.

M-Audio Revo using QCD.
Audiotrak Optoplay 24-bit USB card using Winamp
so you have two cards in one pc ,you listen to qcd via revo
and play winamp to whoever is downstairs via optoplay .
why winamp and not two instances of qcd
(if that's possible) ?
am i understanding what you said ?

hmmm two instances of qcd are possible, try making a shortcut with the command line switch /newinst... not sure how well this works though, might play havoc with using the same dll's etc... ah well you can only try.

I'm not sure if 2 instances of QCD would work using different soundcards. However, as I usually upgrade QCD to the latest Dev build I want another method of playing "downstairs" that will not be affected by QCD. Winamp just sits in the background shuffling through a huge playlist.

do you work upstairs and live downstairs and commute between the two?
how much control over winamp do you have from downstairs man,
is it running through another machine too or *just an amp?
*i don't mean just as in only, it could very well be the beast amp from hell...

Usually I just let Winamp just shuffle away through my entire music collection. However, I am just about to fix up a remote control from downstairs using a BlueTooth enabled mobile phone as the remote control and a BlueTooth dongle on the PC. I still have to download the SW to run on the phone (Sony T610) but I know that it exists.

i think (and i hope nobody quotes me on this) chicubs did this too.
now, what if you could make a phone call with winamp .
have some dtmf tones saved as mp3s, do a bit of the ol' shift+L
maybe even some form of new chat client *W.O.L
*since you're welsh that could be wales or winamp on line.
disturbing ha ha ha ha
(all but the first line of this post were in jest)
