Hi all

Firstly, sorry if a question like this has already been posed. I've looked & can't find one, so hopefully I don't piss anyone off.

I've installed QCD 4.11 and the posted plugin for Ogg Vorbis. When I rip a track to Ogg Vorbis, and then run the ogginfo.exe utility on it, I get this result:

C:\Downloads\Ogg Vorbis>ogginfo 1.ogg
Processing file "1.ogg"...

New logical stream (#1, serial: 000071a1): type vorbis
Warning: Vorbis stream 1 does not have headers correctly framed. Terminal header
page contains additional packets or has non-zero granulepos
Vorbis headers parsed for stream 1, information follows...
Version: 0
Vendor: Xiph.Org libVorbis I 20020717 (1.0)
Channels: 2
Rate: 44100

Nominal bitrate: 64.001000 kb/s
Upper bitrate not set
Lower bitrate not set
User comments section follows...
ENCODER=Encoded by QCD Player (www.quinnware.com)
ARTIST=Mario Del Monaco
TITLE=Fedora: Amor ti vieta
ALBUM=Grandi Voci
TRACKNUMBER=11
Warning: EOS not set on stream 1
Vorbis stream 1:
Total data length: 743674 bytes
Playback length: 1m:50s
Average bitrate: 53.743533 kbps

My questions are:
* Is the quoted warning an issue? If I rip the same track with EAC, ogginfo does not return any warnings
* I noted the version is 1.0. Will this be updated to 1.0.1? Is there any significant difference?

I'm about to buy an iRiver iHP120 or 140, and trying to work out the most suitable ripping software, codec and quality to use!

Thanks for your help.

I haven't updated the Ogg encoder to use 1.0.1 yet, but I don't know of any differences that the update would make (I don't think encode quality was changed at all between versions).

The 'Warning: EOS' is interesting. I will test and correct that.

Thanks for the quick response, that's great.

AFAIK 1.0.1 was just bug fixes but the file size of the oggenc.exe is considerably smaller.

Ogg Vorbis Encoder 1.80 posted.
Fixes EOS issue noted above, and uses VorbisLib 1.0.1.

I just updated the Ogg Encoder Plugin to 1.8 and noticed the following.

It now uses b71's config inside the pref window, which is fine.

I also noticed it can now span all Ogg Quality Ranges from -1 to +10 which is something I requested long ago as I sometimes use the -1 setting.

I noticed that one-decimal quality settings are now allowed, which is good, something I requested since I sometimes use .5 settings. Most Ogg Encoder lets you set 2-decimals quality levels, but I never used them.

One thing I find odd now, they are all displayed as -0.10 to +1 instead of -1 to +10. It's a little confusing actually as I'm used to Ogg's -1 to +10 settings. Is this a bug or is there a good reason for this?

The documentation said the encoder quality goes from -0.1 to 1.

Ah, maybe that's something that changed in 1.0.1 or that the -1 to +10 was just for ease of understanding for the end-user and that this number gets divided by 10 before being passed as a parameter to the encoding function.

Noticed a problem.

It doesn't tag files anymore! v1.60 was tagging files correctly. Is that a new option elsewhere, a bug or was the tagging removed for a reason?

It still tags and it's working for me, in both 4.11 and B71. Check to make sure the Ogg tags are actually set to be read.

Tags are read, all other files display tags correctly.

Something else I tried which caused incorrect tagging. Try to see if you can reproduce it...

- I inserted a CD
- QCD Started (Autorun) and played a random track.
- I pressed Stop.
- I closed the playlist window (I did NOT clear the playlist - normally I do when I encode)
- I clicked the Encoder Button.
- I chose Source -> [F: ...] to make the CD Track listing appear in the encoder window.
- I chose Settings -> Ogg Plug-In -> Set the Bitrate...
- I clicked Sel None to unselect all tracks.
- I selected one track OTHER than the one that played when I inserted the CD.
- Clicked the Record button.

Then I looked at the encoded file, the filename was correct (The song that actually encoded) but the tag was that of the song that played when I first inserted the CD.

Don't know if this can help you find out what's wrong...

Edit: After posting this, I installed b72 and tried again and it works. As far as I know, the only thing that changed was upgrading to b72...
