Just discovered QCD; like it a lot. Maybe I'm hallucinating, but when I first looked through the plugins, I am sure I saw one that allowed for normalizing volume during playback. It referred to mp3Gain, which I have now downloaded, and I thought I had downloaded the plugin, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. I went back through the available plugins here on the website, but can't seem to find anything that looks familiar. Does anyone know what I'm looking for, or will i have to turn mp3Gain loose on my 4000+ collection? Thanks.

Just turn mp3gain loose on your mp3s...it doesn't degrade the quality at all and the process is reversable. The plugin you were lookin at was probably QCD XCopy. It can't normalize on the fly, it just kicks off mp3gain. A DSP plugin can normalize on the fly however.

I guess I'll run mp3Gain when I leave for work; I expect it'll take awhile. Do you know of any DSP's that can normalize?

Doesn't matter what DSPs there are if you run mp3gain, but search the forums for other topics on normalizing dsps.

Here is a list of quite good Winamp DSPs that can be used for normalizing:

AudioStocker Pro
Compressor & Wider
Enhancer
OctiMax
Piettro Pro's RockSteady
Sound Solution
SqrSoft Compressor/Limiter
TomSteady Automatic Gain Controller
Wide & Dynamix

None of these are nearly "perfect" however, so you might want to use more than one at small effect.

I'm still waiting for real, honest support for ReplayGain (http://www.replaygain.org) including album mode. RG can be turned on and off at will, you don't have to keep "undo" data around if you want to reverse the process (like you do with mp3gain). There's a request thread with a little more info over here: http://www.quinnware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=762
