View Full Version : Best Functional Skin

I have been using QCD for quite a long time and every now and then I look for a skin the replace the original default skin. But after trying many different skins, I always find myself returning to the default skin. I cannot say that I love the look of the default skin. But in terms of functionality, I find it the best. The only thing that I don't particularly like is the circular volume control and circular visual effects control (although I don't use visual effects much).
But for a change it would be nice to find a skin that has as much functionality as the default and is not so small to read that I need binoculars or need to adjust my screen resolution. The closest skin to meet my needs has probably been PODxt. But it doesn't have an Equalizer and I don't like the horizontal volume control and horizontal Playlist scroll bar.
So can anyone recommend to me a skin that is very functional and not too small?
Thanks...

Try Phazyme. Very large skin. All the controls you need. Good looking too.

Yeah. Not bad ace2701. The volume control is a little tricky, but very good viewing. But no equalizer. But finally a skin with decent sized font.
Thanks for the suggestion. Other suggestions welcome.

Myself, I use the default skin for the really practical "remote" skin builtin and the general *coolness*
Just wish other skins would integrate a remote as well...

:skull: yeah a remote , hit the remote button and a little remote control
(like for the t.v) pops up. it's kind of small , but a cool feature none the less.
i think you can have the player minimised and still use it via the remote .
PRIZM and SHANIA skins are my 2 favorites man , check them out they're all good . :skull:

It's the R button on the default skin.

I don't have that 'R'. I am using v4.11.I thought that is when it was implemented,But maybe it was one of the dev builds.I'm using the new dev build and it has it.

OK. So I guess I should update to a development build. Is the latest version (Beta Build 71) OK?

I haven't had any problems with it,some people have but they are just minor bugs that i have yet to come across.

No problem that is what this forum and the qcd community is for.

OK. I just updated and now I have remote. So do I enable the remote and then minimize QCD? Or how else do I use it? And it is always on top. Can I change that?

I have. It stays on top. No matter what I set.

:skull: what do you mean IT stays on top , the remote or the whole skin ? do you have "always on top" enabled ? :skull:

The remote stays on top of everything. I don't have "Always On Top" enabled.
I guess that is what it is meant to do. But I would rather it fell behind windows. And when you click a button on the remote, the main player restores to the front. Also. I notice the little audio displays on the remote when you click each one (left & right) turn off. No big deal. But I just don't see the sense.

It does indeed stay on top, but isn't that just what its supposed to do, you know for quick access. Have you tried mmd yet in winshade mode? Or pnp, the updated version of mmd? click here (http://www.quinnware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=832)
Best functional skins are made by skinners for themeselves.

Fo shizzle. :)
I think Snow has all the functionality I need. Of course, some people wouldn't like it because of the lack of the eq preset buttons.

Protocol,
Maybe try Morno...I think it's got the functionality of Phazyme plus it's got EQ controls. Still the circular volume controls though....
Shania also seems to have most everything covered....(that's the QCD skin, not the performer :cheeky: )

you could always use the tray icon and just customize your clicks to bypass the entire remote and still have control

i just discovered that if you have your hot keys set for vol. up and down arrows., you can use your scrow wheel to raise and lower the vol. just put the pointer on the skin, near the playlist and it works. cool man cool.
