Should the CPU usage running QCD player stay constantly on around 50%?
When I use the standard WinMediaplayer usage hit 50% every 2-3 second only!

Sound card: AnalogDevices VT8233 on ASUS A7V8X-X
CPU: AthXP 1700+ running at 2.1 GHz
QCD ver 4.02

Are you running visuals? What type of files are you playing? Do you have the QCD window open, minimized or in the tray? Which skin are you using?

All this affect CPU usage.

*hanzo decides to use invisible ink* (at least it's invisible in my browser - highlight the text to read it)

different types of media use different decoding algorithms. wma uses the most CPU out of the ones i've noticed (audio media, i'm assuming). what media type are you playing?

I had a long running problem with CPU usage, and at times I suspected various things... QCD, Mozilla, soundcard...
Recently, however, I came across this great little program called Process Explorer (http://www.sysinternals.com). It shows the amount of CPU all your processes use, including hardware interrupts (the amount of CPU hardware devices use). Using it I was able to figure out that my Network Card has dodgy drivers or something because whenever it was enabled, CPU use skyrocketed (from hardware using 4-6% to using 50%!). So now I just disable unless I really need it. You may have a similar problem.
Edit: unless of course it is QCD using the CPU. :p

VERY CLEVER HANZO!! :D

Anyway, I find that the newer skins with a big visual area tend to jack the CPU usage on my NT box up to 100% with the visual turned on . With the visuals off, the CPU usage drops to 10 - 30%. If the skin's visual window is small, it stays steady at the lower rate.

I'm sorry. I've been having that problem at random times, my posts get white text even when I haven't changed it... :(

Krazyd, I will try that program. Seems handy to check out how much CPU power hardware pieced are taking.
