With a "special program" I found out, that quintessetial player works with a WINAMP 1.x instance in background. So this program is NOT an alternative to WINAMP, it IS WINAMP!

QCD creates an internal window named "Winamp 1.x" which is what many Winamp plugins search for. This is to facilitate DSP plugin support. What ever you used to determine that Winamp was running just looked for that named window. Big deal.

I wouldn't go that far, and the sound quality has to be (for mp3's) at least comparable to QCD because the same plugins are available for playback (MAD, Shibatch). QCD is better for me because of the lack of AOLshit (spyware?), better performance, better feature set and a great community of users. :D

I still think it is crappy because when you have it and try to use it (change visuals, reproduce mp3's, have a couple of DSP running and browse using the navigator thingy) you are near a crash 90% of the times no matter how powerful your computer is.

Let's just say it is unstable and uses AOL friendly code?:D

QCD can never be winamp 1.x or 2.x or whatever. QDC uses a totally different skinning method. One that is stable on my system, whereas the way winamp is skinned, when it crashes, winamp's skin simply disappears or does weird things.

Nullsoft installer(while installing \ uninstalling winamp) issues a warning that winamp is running when actually qcd was playing.Does it detects qcd as winamp?
