M-Audio have released an updated driver for the Revo 7.1, for Windows 2000 and XP, v.1.0.2.8. For some strange reason it comes without an installer. I unzipped the files and copied them manually to the relevant system folders, then rebooted. But the Revo control panel still shows the previous driver version, 1.0.2.6. Has anyone else been able to make sense of this update, please? The driver web page gives no idea of what improvements the update is supposed to offer. Many thanks.

I can't figure this out either. The file Revo_inf.exe appears to be an installer but does not appear to work. Trying to "Update" the Revo driver and pointing the search to the new revo files does not work either. Very strange. Anyone know a good M-Audio forum?

I posted a query in the Hydrogenaudio forums and had a couple of suggestions in reply. The first was to right-click on the revoboot.inf file and then click on Install; when I tried that, nothing happened. The second was to uninstall the existing driver, reboot and point to the new driver when prompted by the Windows plug & play dialogue. I'm a bit chary of trying that, as I don't wish to lose all my Revo settings. I might be more motivated to try it if I knew what enhancements the new driver is supposed to bring!

I took the plunge, uninstalled the 1.0.2.6 driver, rebooted and installed the latest one. But now the previous driver is still shown in the M-Audio control panel. I'm beginning to think the latest release is not in fact new, but is just the previous release with support for earlier versions of Windows removed, hence the much smaller size of the download file.

I do know when I tried to update the last time to version 0.51, the same thing happened to me. When I installed over the top and rebooted, and also when I uninstalled the current driver and then installed the new one, it still showed the old version in M-Audio control panel. I tried 4 or 5 times with the same result every time. I finally went back to the web-site and downloaded the new file again and this time when I installed over the top, it did change the version in M-Audio control panel.
I tried yesterday with this new version by extracting all files and overwriting the existing ones and got the same result you did.
How about e-mailing them and asking for their help installing the new version? You could probably do this much better than I could. Their e-mail address is techsupt@m-audio.com
Their phone number is 626-445-7556 and they are open 12 hours a day, I think

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm inclined to leave things as they are and wait for the next update. I'm more and more convinced that there isn't anything new in this release; an additional piece of evidence for this is that the unzipped download files are all dated October 2003 or earlier.

I think there is a new guy at M-Audio now in charge of driver releases whose previous job was doing the same thing for Creative.

Try going to the website and downloading the file again. It now shows 10.1mg and it now has a installer and shows 00.52 in m-audio control panel

Well spotted - but it still doesn't make any difference on my system: this is supposed to be v.1.0.2.8 and my M-Audio control panel still says 1.0.2.6. The previous driver was already 0052, so no change there either. And we're still none the wiser as to the changelog!

I think you are wrong about the previous driver being 00.52 -- On my control panel, the previous driver was 00.51. True, the control panel still says 1.0.2.6 but it did change the driver version from 00.51 to 00.52

Look at the numbers on the driver download web page.

Brian - I see what you are speaking of but I think that has recently been changed to 00.52 because when we were trying to upgrade a week or two ago, I went to m-audio and checked the driver version and it said 00.51. I had the same driver that Spidercrab was using. I remember you would not upgrade to it because it was not a signed driver if I am not mistaken. Why don't we just ask Spidercrab which driver version he has now and that would settle it.
Spidercrab - How about a little help? What driver version do you have now with 1.0.2.6? Thanks!

I just downloaded this updated new (10MB) driver and installed it. After a reboot, the Revo Control Panel reports:Version 1.0.2.6
Driver 5.10.00.0052

Spidercrab - I know that. I just wanted to confirm that the driver you had from the original 1.0.2.6 install was 00.51 instead of the one you just downloaded which is 00.52. Brian thinks we already had driver version 00.52.
Please tell us the driver version you had before you just installed this new one - Thanks

I don't know really as I had just recently downloaded the new driver. Sorry.

Well, the only other way to prove it would be to go back to the old forum when you first posted the updated driver and brian was having trouble with his and you told him to try it. That is when I tried for a week or two before I could get mine to show the updated driver 00.51 in the m-audio control panel. So since I can not search the old forum anymore, I guess this discussion is closed. I have the original 1.0.2.6 install in a saved folder but it is not worth going to the trouble of uninstalling the new driver and reinstalling the old one and then upgrading again just to prove a point. Case closed.
