Yes! For once the new version of Real alternative actually works properly straight out of the box! Marvelous! http://www.k-litecodecpack.com/

Interesting. Do you prefer this to playing real audio in QCD? If so, can you give your reasons?

I like this becuase I can play web-site embedded music with it without installing the Real Player as some web-site like the bbc don't give you a link to play the music/video in a player they just give an embedded player. I would use QCD to play the music if i could get the link (which i have actually got most of them) but its just conveinience playing it in the browser. The Media Player Classic handels real video better then Tara and the Video plug-in. Another reason i have it installed is becuase it does actually give the codecs so as to play Real Media files in QCD in the first place!

Hmmm........ The new quicktime alt works fine for me right outta the box, using B70 on XP.

what does Properties > Opens With show when you right click a quicktime file? mine shows QuickTimePlayer.exe but i uninstalled the QT player before installing the alternative. so what should it be?

plus, when i try to play it in QCD, nothing happens

These alternative proggies, are they good? I mean, do they use less CPU, load faster, are able to stream media? I'd like to know. Quicktime and Realplayer have been getting on my nerves for a long time :bandit:

i use the real alternative as my main real media player. Works well loads quicker then the real player it uses media player classic as its main "player" as such but once the codecs are installed you can use them in most players like QCD just the QCD video plug-in doesn't like streaming real media all that much (won't play at all on my machine). The Real Alternative works well, supports embedded media straight outta the box and streams just as well as the real player, probably better.

Also by using the Alternative (QT and Real) you are doing a favor to you computer ;) QuickTime and especially Real software are know for screwing up many pcs (not to mention the extreme dificulty in removing those pieces of software completely).
Both of the codecs enable streaming content. And they come with an excellent media player (MPC). I recomend everyone these two codec packs!

Matty, what are the enhacements or updates made to this version? I haven't downloaded them. I do use the QT and RA alternatives and MPC, but I'm no fan of any of those formats, I just have them because I hate QT and RA a lot, but a huge percentage of the media on the internet is in those formats so... there's not much I can do.

the main improvement i've seen is in embedded media (like when the real player loads in Internet Explorer or whatever) in previous versions it would never work properly at all straight out of the box and i'd have to add files to the codecs to get it to work. This version however seems to have sorted that out completely.

Hi folks. I had Realalternative working fine when playing streaming audio on certain websites. now that I have upgraded to Firefox I can't listen to anything.

Do I need to download and install into Firefox?

I know I should maybe post this in Mozillazine but I've got more faith in the folks here, quite frankly.

Cheers guys.

re install realalternative but when installing there is an option to install plug-ins for netscape, mozilla etc tick that. a installer box will come up shortley and point the extraction to the plug-ins directory in the firefox directory. if after that it still doesn't work have a look in that folder to make sure it hasn't put them in any sub-directories

HTH

Eh, it actually stopped working superbly :depressed Whenever i want to stream media and use seek, the player wont buffer anymore. I can only watch the media for beginning to end with realalternative. That's no good and just reminded me why i reverted back to realplayer in the past. Also i dont like how it blocks loading of realplayer, as real alternative will load instead.

I installed the program without incident, and when I try to launch BSPLAY.EXE, it says, "This Program does not run on machines with active sytem debugger!" Any way to fix this? Thanx!

A new version of the K-Lite Codec Pack has been released. It is now available in three flavours: Basic, Standard and Full. There have been lots of changes, updates and improvements. http://www.k-litecodecpack.com/
along with some other minor improvements (whatever that means) to quick time/real alternatives

I think you installed the "K-Lite Codec Pack" not the "real alternative" try the latest version of the "K-Lite Codec Pack" might solve your problem. HTH

Hey, after listening to NPR on the Real Alternative thingy for a few hours, I must say that I'm very impressed. I'll be uninstalling Real very soon. I don't use Quicktime often enough to install the other one, but the Real Alternative is wonderful. Thanks so much.

I don't like how it won't play embedded video, atleast it wouldn't for me, for some reason quicktime was requested to be downloaded on one of the pages that had it embedded. I denied it, and I got the slash through quicktime icon aka plugin not installed. :ermm:

Also, now when I try and play .rm files they download then I get a popup saying "windows cannot find "C:\Documents\..\..\..\..\Temporary Internet Files\content.IE5\..\..\FILENAME.rm" make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. To search for a file click start, blah blah...
