Hi folks. I wonder if anyone knows of any good Canadian Forums. I need to keep up to date with public opinion on Canadian & World Affairs but can't seem to find any websites that particularly feature Canadian input (except this one). Any help on this would be greatfully appreciated. Cheers.
Hey Rory,
glad you have some interest in our country :)
What i would recommend is reading our newspapers to get an idea of whats going on. Of course you probably don't get the hard copies in Scotland, so check out their websites:
The globe and mail

this one is for global tv network news, it contains a forum but it's not your typical forum.

Thanks Guys. I might live in Scotland but I was born in a place called Cornwall. Also in 2000 I was working in Algonquin Park.
Beautiful Country, Beautiful People.

BTW That's Cornwall in Ontario, not England. God Forbid

And you call yourself Canadian... ;)
How can you forget Canada's largest "Make Work" program?
Actually, I love the CBC. Watch it at 5:30 on March 4 and you'll see me on air!

We've been on CBC Radio already, and TV was the next step...

That surely ain't far from where I live. I'm in Ottawa (well, Kanata but then the bastards merged us in... ).

Hi Roj. Yeah, been to Ottawa, beautiful. We were there to sort out my wifes immigration. Now she's an honorary Canuk. We're ready to vacate Scotland anytime soon. We're just trying to get work sorted first. It seems that's not easy anywhere.
I've visited the CBC forums but they seem a bit sterile, (and that's not the only similarity with the BBC). BTW, Why do almost all Canadian forums contain at least one thread called "I am Canadian" or "Proud to be canadian" or some such. Why the need to explain yourselves.
For me at least, no explanation neccessary.
On the back of my favourite T-shirt:-
"I'm not a lumberjack or a fur trader.
And I don't live in an igloo or eat blubber or own a dog sled.
And I don't know Jimmy, Sally or Suzie from Canada, although I am
certain they are really really nice.
I have a Prime Minister, not a President; I speak English and French,
not American; and I pronounce it 'about not 'a boot.'
I can proudly sew my country's flag on my backpack; I believe in
peace keeping, not policing; diversity, not assimilation; and that the
beaver is a truly proud and noble animal.
A toque is a hat, a chesterfield is a couch, and it is pronounced 'zed.'
Not 'zee,' 'zed.'
Canada is the second-largest land mass, the first nation of hockey
and the best part of North America.
My name is Rory, and I am Canadian."
The topics are popular American misconceptions of us, lampooned in Canadian beer commercials, of all things - a national inside joke that invariably provokes a laugh. Trust me, we have no innate need to justify ourselves to anyone. :)
